Democrats have used their first TV buy in Pennsylvania to go after Republicans challenging their two most vulnerable incumbents in the state.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s first two TV ads, obtained by pa2010.com ahead of their formal release Monday afternoon, target Republicans Mike Kelly and Lou Barletta. Kelly is running against freshman Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper (D-3), while Barletta is challenging longtime incumbent Congressman Paul Kanjorski (D-11) for the third time in eight years.

DCCC wants anti-Kanjo ad removed
Democrats are moving to have a third-party TV ad that attacks Congressman Paul Kanjorski (D-11) taken off the airwaves in northeast Pennsylvania.
Attorneys for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee wrote a letter to local TV stations late last week, saying the p“This advertisement is false, misleading and deceptive,” the DCCC lawyers wrote in a href="http://www.pa2010.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/DCCC-Legal-Letter-on-Ads.pdf" onclick="javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http://www.pa2010.com']);return TrackClick("http%3A%2F%2Fwww.pa2010.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2010%2F09%2FDCCC-Legal-Letter-on-Ads.pdf','the+letter')" target="_blank"the letter/a. “We ask that you refuse to continue to air this advertisement.”/p
pWhile empa2010.com/em has yet to independently fact-check the ad, the 60 Plus Association defended its accuracy./p
p“They could try to spin this any way they like,” group spokesman Tom Kise told emThe Times-Tribune/em, which a href="http://thetimes-tribune.com/news/dems-ask-stations-to-remove-anti-kanjorski-ad-1.1010644" onclick="javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackEvent','outbound-article','http://thetimes-tribune.com']);return TrackClick("http%3A%2F%2Fthetimes-tribune.com%2Fnews%2Fdems-ask-stations-to-remove-anti-kanjorski-ad-1.1010644','first+reported+on+the+letter')" target="_blank">first reported on the letter. “But the fact remains Kanjorski voted for a health care bill that cost a trillion dollars, raises taxes and cuts Medicare.”September 14, 2010 at 9:21 am | Comments (0)

LEFTOVERS: Fundraising pleas, NRCC lifts Fitzpatrick, Biden/Pelosi details
It was the last day of the FEC fundraising quarter on Wednesday, which meant the typical batch of last-minute pleas from candidates seeking cash.
The morning started with an e-mail from Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz (D-13) on behalf of Manan Trivedi, the Democratic candidate in the 6th District. Schwartz had backed Trivedi’s opponent Doug Pike in the May primary, but now she was going to bat for Trivedi. “This district has been a challenge over these…

EXCLUSIVE: Biden, Pelosi to headline Philly event for Lentz & DCCC
Two of the country’s top Democrats are heading to Philadelphia to raise some cash for House candidates, and Bryan Lentz will be raking in some of that money.
Vice President Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will be headlining a fundraiser July 19, according to Democrats familiar with the event. The proceeds will be split between Lentz’s campaign and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, though the exact nature of that split remains unclear. Some…

In the 3rd, outside cash could make the difference
Political parties don’t just throw their money into any congressional races, reserving cash to play in the most hotly contested Districts, where an extra advertising push can propel a candidate ahead in the polls and, eventually, on Election Day. Perhaps no other district in the state fits that description better than the 3rd, where Republican Mike Kelly is hoping to unseat freshman Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper (D-3) in a race that could serve as a microcosm…

Trivedi added to DCCC program
Add Manan Trivedi to the list of Democrats that the party thinks can capture Republican-held seats.
Trivedi, the Reading doctor and candidate in the 6th Congressional District, was added on Monday to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s “Red to Blue” program. The program serves as the DCCC’s hub for promoting and helping candidates competing in Republican-controlled districts (the program also encompasses the committee’s open-seat efforts).
Trivedi, who faces Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6), was one of…

Dems frame 12th District special as a must-win… for GOP
On the eve of a special election being closely watched outside Pennsylvania, Democrats sought to frame the debate early, saying the 12th District contest is only a must-win for Republicans and apparently looking to preempt any possible narratives that might arise from a Democratic loss.
In an e-mail blast to reporters Monday, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee said it’s “important to remember that only one election [on Tuesday] features a Republican versus Democrat.”
“The NRCC…
