Gov. Tom Corbett’s proposed deep cuts in state government spending have not gone over well with many citizens and organizations that depend on that spending. Probably the most controversial budget cuts are to the basic education subsidies that tend to make up about half of school district budgets.

Republicans Pat Toomey and Tom Corbett continue to lead the race for Senate and governor, respectively, but paths to victory remain for the Democratic candidates, according to a new poll.

Clinton stumps for Onorato, Sestak

Former President Bill Clinton rolled through the Philadelphia area Monday to boost the electoral hopes of gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato and Senate hopeful Joe Sestak.
The pair of morning stops came as Clinton increasingly plays the role of cheerleader-in-chief for the Democratic Party ahead of the midterm elections. At a rally for Onorato in West Philadelphia, Clinton hearkened back the support he received from the City of Brotherly Love.

Clinton will rally Onorato supporters

For the second time in just over a month, former President Bill Clinton is stumping for Dan Onorato.
Clinton will headline a rally on Monday for the Democratic gubernatorial candidate. The rally is scheduled for 11 a.m. at 52nd and Chestnut Streets in Philadelphia. Gov. Ed Rendell is also expected to attend.
The former president, his party’s go-to campaign surrogate this election cycle, headlined a fundraiser for Onorato Aug. 10.

RGA moves cash for Corbett

National Republicans moved more than $1.5 million into a Keystone State political action committee this summer, with the goal of helping Attorney General Tom Corbett capture the Governor’s Mansion.

Republican Tom Corbett has opened up a 13-point advantage in the race to be Pennsylvania’s next governor, according to a new poll.

Corbett up 11 among likely voters, poll says

Republican gubernatorial hopeful Tom Corbett continues to enjoy a double-digit lead among those Pennsylvanians most likely to go to the polls in November, according to a new survey.
The Franklin & Marshall College poll released Thursday found Corbett, the state attorney general, leading Democratic nominee Dan Onorato by 11 points among likely voters, 38 percent to 27 percent. Almost a third of voters remain undecided, according to the poll.

Onorato sees a flip-flop in Corbett’s tax pledge

Democrat Dan Onorato on Wednesday aggressively called into question his GOP rival’s pledge not to raise taxes as governor, pointing out contradictory statements given by Tom Corbett’s campaign about the specifics of the pledge.
During a conference call with reporters, Onorato noted that Corbett’s campaign told Capitolwire ( p“Yesterday, Tom feels some heat from the media and now the pledge includes fees, while in March it didn’t,” Onorato said. “Every time he feels a little pressure he changes his point of view.
