Is This the Beginning of the End of Pa. Public Education?

Gov. Tom Corbett’s proposed deep cuts in state government spending have not gone over well with many citizens and organizations that depend on that spending. Probably the most controversial budget cuts are to the basic education subsidies that tend to make up about half of school district budgets.

State corrections budget points to need for sentencing reform
Gov. Tom Corbett’s proposed budget includes a slight increase for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. Under the governor’s budget, the state would spend $1.967 billion on the prison system, compared to $1.955 billion for fiscal year 2010. The state general fund, however, would also have to cover the loss of almost $174 million in federal stabilization funds.

Onorato gets a ‘Glee’-ful boost

Politics and entertainment more often intersect at the national level—or at least in high profile elections. But Pennsylvania’s often-sleep gubernatorial race is getting a dose of Hollywood this weekend.
