Toomey’s center-tack nothing but a trick
August 4, 2009 at 7:31 pm
Now that Congressman Joe Sestak (D-7) has finally made his challenge to Senator Arlen Specter official, Republican Pat Toomey, running mostly unopposed in the GOP primary, seems perfectly comfortable tacking toward the center, beginning his efforts at appearing to be a moderate, mainstream alternative to Pennsylvania voters.
But how successful can the former Club for Growth president and BFF to Grover Norquist—the man who doesn’t seem to want to pay his share of taxes and…

While I’m hoping this will be taken by those who are easily offended—or those who easily feign offense—with the tongue-in-cheek tone in which it is intended, I must say how happy I was to hear Senator Arlen Specter

July 28, 2009 at 8:14 pm
In his response to my health care post last week, Gregory Kauffman called our current system of medical insurance a national embarrassment.
I’d go even further and call it a national disgrace. No one should die in the wealthiest country in the world because they lack health insurance or the necessary funds to pay for needed medical care. We can hardly call ourselves the greatest country on earth when this is how we treat our…

While President Obama might have made a slightly stronger case for his plans for health care reform in his Wednesday night press conference, Pennsylvanians only have to look at the more than 200,000 names on the waiting list for adultBasic insurance right here in our own state to realize how desperately change is needed.
An estimated 47 million Americans are without health insurance, with millions more underinsured, and polls show strong support for reform, with…

Did anyone watch any of the confirmation hearings for Judge Sonia Sotomayor last week?
Dios mio.
While our own newly-minted Democratic senator, Arlen Specter peppered the nominee with questions ranging from wireless wiretaps to voting rights to televisions in the court, his former colleagues on the Republican side of the aisle seemed intent on following the

Last Friday’s edition of The Delaware County Daily Times reported that, at June’s meeting of Democratic Party leaders at the Marple Library where the big attraction was newly-Democratic Senator Arlen Specter, two Republican commissioners from Aston Township also announced their defection to the Democratic Party. With Third Ward Commissioner Joseph Possenti and Second Ward Commissioner Jeffrey M. Pilla leaving,

Taking a look at Rendell’s proposed tax increase
June 23, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Republicans, as expected, are up in arms and, as usual, spreading untruths about Gov. Ed Rendell’s proposed increase in personal income tax to help cover the commonwealth’s expected $3.2 billion budget deficit.
Despite cutting more than $1 billion out of the proposed budget for fiscal year 2009-2010 with still more to come, the GOP is accusing Rendell of refusing to make any cuts and of trying to maintain prerecession…
Full StoryWeighing in on Specter vs. Sestak
June 22, 2009 at 3:41 pm
While the potential battle between incumbent Senator Arlen Specter and Congressman Joe Sestak (D-7) has been covered extensively, both here at pa2010.com and elsewhere, I thought I’d go ahead and add my two cents just the same.
Personally, I’m glad Sestak has not ruled out a possible run against the newly Democratic Specter in next year’s primary, and that opinion has nothing whatsoever to do with my feelings toward Specter.
Truth be told, I’ve always…
