Suburban Snapshot’s day two in New York
December 15, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Saturday morning was another premiere event— the PMA/Wachovia breakfast. For over 30 years Fred Anton, Chairman of the powerful PA Manufacturers’ Association, has held a breakfast that brings together an interesting mix of electeds and candidates. This year, Sam Rohrer, Joe Hoeffel, Jim Gerlach, Dan Onorato, Pat Toomey, Jack Wagner and Tom Corbett all spoke. Hugh Long, Wachovia’s president, singled out Tom Judge, who retired as Delco GOP chair after 33 years of service. A…

NEW YORK—Suburban Snapshot was partying it up here last weekend. State Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi’s event Friday was crowded as always, as Pileggi has people who really like his brand of Harrisburg leadership. Next we went on to the Michael Clark reception. This was my first time, and I can see why this is the “best kept secret”—and I’ll keep it this way.
Next on the agenda was BlankRome. This is “The Party” for…

If the people who attended the groundbreaking Republican National Committee’s “Say it Loud: Media Surrogate 101″ program at the Marriott in West Conshohocken last weekend are any indication of how the Republican party is going to do next year, it’s going to be nothing but victories.
Even though this event was held in Montgomery County, people came from Chester, Bucks, Philly, DelCo, and as far away as Luzerne and Dauphin counties, despite the snowy conditions.…

“There’s gonna be some changes made.” Those words are absolutely accurate for Delaware County Republicans. After 34 years county GOP Chairman Tom Judge, is calling it quits—sort of. He is officially handing the reins over to Andy Reilly, a former county council chairman and Middletown Republican leader. Suburban Snapshot asked Reilly what he will do to make sure the Judge recipe for success continues under his tenure: “Good candidates and a good campaign,” he said…

Hey Suburban Snapshot readers.
Wanted to let you know I have not fallen off the face of the earth, nor did I go on a Jules Verne “Around the World in 80 Days” venture. As is the new catch-all phrase, I have been career-transitioning. During my absence, I have formed a new company, Hegedus Connex—your connection to the connectors.
Political communications is my forte and I am working on developing this further. Because of this…

What is the recipe for a Republican victory in Philadelphia? Take people’s frustrations with the current Washington administration; add to that uncertainty about jobs; sprinkle vigorously with concern about increased health care costs providing less benefits; massage and knead well the perception that Democrats may not always be the answer; blend in that Fox News is not considered news; dot with a growing tea-party phenomenon… and what do you get? For the Republicans, it may…

HARRISBURG—The words “Republican State Committee” make you think of elephants, excitement and elation at GOP victories. Those things happened in Harrisburg this weekend, but “Iowa” T-shirts were popping up all over the Hilton here, as if the Hawkeye State’s caucus had moved to Pennsylvania. Either people want Rick Santorum to go run for president there, or they were enemy fans in Penn State’s weekend game.
Football aside, attending a state committee meeting is a great…

What do Project H.O.M.E., Sr. Mary Scullion and Mitch Albom have to do with politics? Plenty.
Suburban Snapshot had the opportunity to visit Project H.O.M.E., a shelter for homeless Philadelphians, and talk with Sr. Mary Scullion, Philadelphia’s angel of mercy who, along with Joan Dawson McConnon, co-founded this worthwhile organization in 1989. Along for the ride was Mitch Albom, world famous author, sportswriter, screenwriter, and across-the-bridge former citizen of Haddon Township, NJ, in town talking…

PHILADELPHIA—Here are three things you may not have known about Ken Burns, the legendary documentary filmmaker:
1. He is left-handed, providing one more piece of evidence that lefties are more creative.
2. He knew from the age of 13 that he was going to be a filmmaker of some kind.
3. He’s Brooklyn-born.
Suburban Snapshot had an incredible opportunity to sit down with Burns late last week. He was here at WHYY to celebrate the…
