With only eight months to go before the 2010 primary, Democrats will be able to vote for their favorite candidate for Governor.

On Friday, Aug. 28, the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee will hold a straw poll at its summer picnic. Anyone who buys a ticket to the All American Home Style picnic at the Radisson Penn Harris in Camp Hill will be able to vote.

While it’s a non binding event, it creates enthusiasm while…

  • 6th District now ‘leans Democratic’

    July 28, 2009 at 8:11 pm

Democratic Congressional candidate Doug Pike received a bit of encouragement from Congressional Quarterly Tuesday, which listed the “6th District” as leaning Democratic.

Pike, who has outworked and outraised candidates on both sides, promises to be the one to beat in 2010 as he continues working the district, raising money and putting together a top-notch campaign team.

  • Pike receives key endorsement in 6th Congressional District

    July 17, 2009 at 10:50 am

Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-8) has endorsed Doug Pike’s efforts to succeed Congressman Jim Gerlach in the 6th Congressional District.

Murphy, who heads the Red to Blue effort of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, has been impressed with Doug’s qualifications and his work ethic thus far.

Pike, who has more than $630,000 in the bank, will be a tremendous force to reckon with in 2010. Thus far, he has outraised state Representative Curt Schroder (R-Chester) by…

  • Vacancy in PA-6 is good news for Dems

    July 14, 2009 at 12:53 pm

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted largely due to the budget impasse that Senate Republicans have perpetuated, but at least we got some good news today.

With Congressman Jim Gerlach’s (R-6) announcement that he will run for governor next year, his seat will be wide open and very winnable for a Democrat.

Former Philadelphia Inquirer editorial writer Doug Pike has done an outstanding job of putting together a campaign team. He has also done the…

  • Counties to Senate Republicans: No passing the buck!

    June 27, 2009 at 9:20 am

Ten leaders representing 40 Pennsylvania counties visited Gov. Ed Rendell and members of the legislature Thursday carrying one simple message to Senate Republicans and their draconian budget proposal: “Don’t pass us the buck.”

County Commissioners and executives—including some from Republican counties—said they cannot afford to absorb additional costs that would become their responsibility if the commonwealth does not adequately fund programs through which they deliver services to their citizens. Counties would have to balance their…

  • Dems come out of Pittsburgh on ‘Cloud Nine’

    June 9, 2009 at 4:11 pm

More than 350 people attended the Democratic State Committee meeting in Pittsburgh this past Saturday to hear Senator Arlen Specter speak to them as a Democrat.

Yes, he also spoke on Friday night, but he did so more in remembrance of the late Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll, the Party’s “Grande Dame” who made history as the first female to hold that post.

On Friday night, Gov. Ed Rendell formally welcomed Specter to the Party…

It’s been awhile since I really posted, mainly due to all of the preparation that has gone into the Democratic State Committee meeting scheduled for this weekend in Pittsburgh.

On Friday night, more than 300 Democrats will be on hand to celebrate the life and times of the late Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll, the “grande dame” of the state’s Democratic Party. Gov. Ed Rendell will be joined by Senator Bob Casey and Chairman T.J.…

    May 27, 2009 at 7:32 am

Senator Arlen Specter continues to reach out to Democratic leaders all over Pennsylvania as he builds momentum and support within the state’s Democratic Party.

For the past three weeks, Specter has been taking questions from Democratic county chairs and Democratic elected officials who have joined him on a series of conference calls.

Gov. Ed Rendell and state Democratic Party Chairman T.J. Rooney have also been in on conversations exchanges with Specter.

  • Why the Supreme Court matters in 2010

    May 19, 2009 at 8:35 pm

Aside from the races for Governor and Senate next year, Pennsylvanians will be counted during the decennial Census.

The Census is critical as it relates to carving out representation in Congress, the state House of Representatives and state Senate. It also determines how federal resources will be allocated to help Pennsylvanians, particularly in tough economic times.

In 2000, Senate Republicans decimated Democratic districts throughout Pennsylvania with reckless abandonment.

Next year may not be any different.…
