  • Toomey’s record always favored Wall Street over Main Street

    December 3, 2009 at 10:40 am

Today, Pat Toomey, the former head of the Wall Street-backed Club for Growth and a former Wall Street derivative trader, will be in Allentown to explain why he is right and President Obama is wrong when it comes to rebuilding Main Street.

What Toomey won’t say is that he’s spent his adult life advocating for policies that have destroyed Main Street and drove the Pennsylvania economy into the ditch. As head of the Club for…

  • Bring it in 2010

    November 25, 2009 at 3:38 pm

With tomorrow being Thanksgiving and the rest of holidays “officially” starting on Friday, many Pennsylvanians are taking a breather from the rat race.

However, at the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, we are already gearing up for DemFest 2010 that will take place on Feb. 5-6 in Lancaster.

On Feb. 5, Democrats will gather for useful workshops called “Deminars” in the afternoon and will also celebrate the Party’s leadership of Gov. Ed Rendell and Chairman T.J. Rooney.…

  • Does Corbett have any pop with the GOP?

    November 6, 2009 at 9:37 am

On Election Day, the voters of Centre County awarded Democrat Stacy Parks-Miller a resounding victory in the District Attorney’s race, 65-35 percent. She smoked the Republican incumbent by winning 85 of 89 precincts despite receiving quite a bit of support from the state Republican Party as well as an “endorsement” from state Attorney General and Republican gubernatorial hopeful, Tom Corbett.

Corbett’s presence in Centre County a month ago may have done more harm than good…

  • Congrats to local Democratic winners

    November 6, 2009 at 9:35 am

“If you don’t succeed, we’ll make a hero out of you for trying. That’s the kind of team we play on.”

    —President Lyndon Baines Johnson, 1964

While Tuesday’s results were not what we wanted as Democrats, it’s important to take a step back, reflect and take a look at the bigger picture in Pennsylvania and build upon our strengths.

First of all, every single one of our statewide judicial candidates…

  • Where is the real GOP leadership?

    October 26, 2009 at 12:25 pm

After a bizarre week of pronouncements and political propaganda by Republicans in Pennsylvania, it’s no small question to ask: Are there any reasonable Republicans left in Pennsylvania or they going the way of the national Republican Party that’s being led around by extremists?

First case in point: Early last week, the state GOP inserted a hammer and sickle inside the “O” in President Obama’s name on an ad for their state Supreme Court candidate.

    Second…

  • Specter leads fight on life-saving research

    October 5, 2009 at 11:02 am

Last week, President Obama praised Senator Arlen Specter for leading the fight to increase funding for life-saving research.

Obama was referring to funding for the National Institute of Health (NIH).

Earlier this year, Specter spearheaded an effort for the NIH to receive an additional $10 billion in funding.

Obama praised Specter and his efforts by saying:

“We are so happy to have Senator Arlen Specter, who is directly responsible for so much of the funding…

  • Specter to help Democratic judicial candidates

    October 1, 2009 at 2:32 am

Whew! It’s been a while since I posted due to a vacation and working tirelessly on our judicial races.

Ever since Judge Teresa Sarmina was nominated for the final slot on the Superior Court last month, things have been hopping.

Judge Sarmina is poised to become the first Latina elected at the statewide level. In fact, we are feeling quite confident that we can elect all seven judges, as this election is all about turnout…

  • Time for a vacation

    August 19, 2009 at 9:56 pm

No better time than the dog days of August to get away.

I’ll be out of town until the end of the month. The BlueBlast will resume upon my return.

    Enjoy politics without me.

  • Tired of watching obstructionists

    August 11, 2009 at 10:28 am

As I watch MSNBC, I can’t help but admire Senator Arlen Specter for tolerating so much nonsense from organized obstructionist groups with little to say.

These town hall meetings have turned into a complete and utter joke as the far-right that has gone out of its way to attack Democrats.

Those with real questions are getting drowned out by the silly, card-holding, talking-point reading individuals that don’t care about the bill, but expanding a far-right…

  • The party weighs in on the Senate primary

    August 5, 2009 at 9:55 am

While the Pennsylvania Democratic Party welcomes Congressman Joe Sestak Sestak (D-7) into the primary race for the U.S. Senate in 2010, it’s important to also note how difficult the challenge will be for him against Senator Arlen Specter.

Historically, Democratic incumbents have been difficult to topple at the state level. While the January endorsement meeting of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party will prove to be a dream for reporters, bloggers, pollsters and political pundits, it’s difficult…
