  • Tom Corbett—all about the profits

    September 14, 2010 at 11:45 am

The Marcellus Shale is one of the greatest economic development opportunities in the history of Pennsylvania. Aside from its tremendous potential to produce energy, it represents an enormous foundation for job creation. According to the state Department of Labor and Industry, the Marcellus Shale could produce 4,397 jobs directly and a total of 15,609 ancillary jobs.

But where is GOP gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett on making sure that those jobs to go to Pennsylvanians? He’s…

  • Year of the Democrat

    September 1, 2010 at 11:50 am

When I graduated high school in 1985, I went to the movies that summer to see “Year of the Dragon,” which starred Mickey Rourke and dealt with organized crime in Chinatown. One of my favorite scenes is when Rourke’s character, Captain Stanley White, lines up his weary police force to scold: “You look like the Chicago Cubs. Like you already lost.”

With all deference and respect to my friends who happen to be Cubs fans,…

  • The original BlueBlast is back!

    August 25, 2010 at 2:00 pm

It’s great to be back on pa2010.com!

During these past few months, I’ve missed the exchanges and ability to directly comment on this year’s important races. Once again, I welcome the opportunity to provide input on contests up and down the ballot. As Chris Matthews pointed out in his book several years ago, you don’t allow any shots to go unanswered.

Rest assured that The BlueBlast will not allow shots to go unanswered, particularly with…

  • Moving on

    February 2, 2010 at 12:51 pm

Folks, it’s been a BLAST! I’ve certainly enjoyed contributing to pa2010.com, which has really come into its own as an authoritative source of news, information and incisive commentary. Now, it’s time to say “adios,” as I depart my position with the Democratic Party to become state legislative director for the Laborers’ International Union of North America.

I’d like to thank the readers, those who added their own thoughts into the mix and everyone else who…

  • Disappointed but not panicking

    January 21, 2010 at 8:00 pm

Much has been said and written about Tuesday’s race in Massachusetts. And while it was an obvious disappointment to Democrats after making historic gains in 2008, everyone knows that 2010 will be a difficult year.

That goes for everyone, not just Democrats.

What we saw on Tuesday was more anxiety about how Washington conducts its business. Middle class voters came out and spoke about their frustrations. But no one is more frustrated about the conditions…

  • Will Toomey seek repeal of health care?

    January 14, 2010 at 2:28 pm

The ultra-conservative Club for Growth on Thursday announced a push to have health care legislation repealed and is seeking the support of members of Congress.

The first two to sign up were Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) and Congressman Jeff Flake (R-AZ).

The pledge reads: “I hereby pledge to the people of my state/district to sponsor and support legislation to repeal any federal health care takeover passed in 2010, and replace it with real reforms that…

  • Pa. congressional Republicans show no courage

    December 16, 2009 at 2:39 pm

Last Friday, every single Republican congressman from Pennsylvania decided that Wall Street was more important than working families in our state.

Republican congressmen, such as Charlie Dent and Jim Gerlach, turned their backs on hard working men and women and voted to allow the financial sector to continue unchecked and risky business practices.

Every single Republican member voted AGAINST the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2009. This bill would will help stabilize…

  • Barletta: More of the same

    December 9, 2009 at 5:06 pm

It looks like Lou Barletta hasn’t had enough bites of the sour apple and wants to go back for a third chomp.

The problem with another candidacy for the Mayor of Hazleton is that he doesn’t offer anything new. He’s still lumped in with Washington Republicans and the Party of NO that doesn’t listen to needs of the residents of the 11th District.

Today, state Democratic Party chairman T.J. Rooney offered the following statement on…
