State awash in campaign spending as DSCC releases new ad blasting Toomey
The scary Chinese are back …
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), its Republican counterpart, the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee (NRSC) and other outside groups have targeted the Keystone state for some heavy spending as the polling gap between Joe Sestak and Pat Toomey has narrowed down the stretch.
The DSCC released a new ad for Sestak titled “Corning” to run in the state during the last week before the election. The ad highlights a College Township, Centre County, plant owned by Corning, N.Y., based Corning Inc. In 2003, the plant shut down and the jobs sent to China. The ad then attacks Toomey for his votes granting China special trade status as well as corporate tax breaks that facilitated the outsourcing. The ad points out that the workers were directed to disassemble the machines before they, too, were shipped overseas.
The NRSC, meanwhile, last released a new ad touting Toomey on Oct. 13. Titled “Interview,” the NRSC ad attacks Sestak for his votes in favor of the economic stimulus package and the health care bill as well as his support for a cap and trade bill. The ad shows clips of Sestak saying he would have supported a larger stimulus bill and a public health insurance option.
Regardless of who wins the race, the real winners will be the television and radio stations running the ads. The National Journal’s Hotline reported just after the NRSC released their ad that they would be doubling their ad buy budget in Pennsylvania to $3.4 million, the same amount the DSCC planned to spend in the final few weeks. Politico estimated that the DSCC planned to drop $2.8 million in the races closing days supporting Sestak with the ad buy.
None of that counts the massive spending by outside groups, largely facilitated by the Citizens United Supreme Court decision earlier this year. The bottom line, as the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Oct. 27, is that outside groups and the campaign committees have spent $8.28 million to help elect Toomey and $7.92 million on behalf of Sestak.
According to federal election laws, the campaign committees may do limited coordination with individual campaigns, but other groups may not coordinate at all.
The Pennsylvania spending is part of a larger nation-wide pattern that will set records for spending. The Center for Responsive Politics (CRP) reported that outside groups dropped $38.2 million on just on Tuesday, the traditional first day of television ad buys. In total, they reported that outside groups have spent $344.8 this election cycle. After factoring in money raised and spent by candidates, estimates that this midterm will shatter the previous midterm spending record of $1 billion in 2006
Sestak has managed to close the polling gap between himself and Toomey during October, but Toomey continues to hold a narrow lead in most polls. The Hill blog reported Sunday that Toomey blamed DSCC attack ads for his weakening support. Five Thirty Eight currently projects a Toomey win 51.9 to 48.1 while Real Clear Politics shows Toomey up 3.2 percent.

We’ve a had a rather large amount of emails about our referencing “Scary Chinese” and other comments (see: Debate between Toomey and Sestak) and would like to remind you all, we are just printing what the campaigns are saying and certainly implying.
We have seen outsourcing to China as a means to attack an opponent come up as the race gets to the end game.
Just the facts.

RCP shows 4.6%, not 3.2%. And RCP had it at 4.6% well before 9:45am this morning so you can’t blame it on time delay in the story either.

The comment re: Bob Asher is totally misguided. The conviction was spurious and the debt to society has been Paid in Full.
Bob is a hard working, dedicated citizen, who should be applauded for his work on behalf of a terrific, high value candidate.

As a lifelong democrat I urge anyone in Philly to vote against Rat Boy, Dan Ono”RAT”o, who is Anti-Philadelphia and a spoiled little, noodnink aka Rendell Lite. He sabotaged Saidel’s campaign (who is a gentleman and smarter than anyone in Harrisburg) and is best friends with Ballard Spahr Thief John E$tey. Vote for Corbett and show those bedbugs from Western and Central PA that you do not mess with Philly. PS-Rendell is from New York and a certified Hall of Fame Carpet Bagger.

Pat Toomey is a corporate hack. He’s probably half-Chinese. Look at his eyes! Bill Clinton wanted to keep China out of the WTO but Pat Toomey threatened his life if he didn’t allow China in. So, here we are. Despite Clinton’s best efforts we now have China in the WTO, CAFTA, and NAFTA…and it’s all Pat Toomey’s fault. Nobody made this happen more than Pat Toomey, except maybe Sarah Palin. As mayor of Wassila I bet she backed NAFTA too! Damn the GOP!!!!!

Goodbye Joe, you self-absorbed, narcissistic, corrupt son-of-a-bitch.

Amen.
Though in Joe’s defense, I don’t think he was “corrupt” in the usual sense of taking a bribe.
I think he was corrupt in:
wearing that green jacket with the military patch like it was a prop (even putting in on as he entered a warm building to give a speech)
1) failing to pay his workers minimum wage.
2) saving money on congress staff salaries to put toward his franking/mailing budget (which these days is really taxpayer funding campaign mailings)
3) deceiving donors during 2007 and 2008 that the extra $3 million he raised was really earmarked for a Senate run, and not for holding the seat in the 7th district as he claimed
4) for failing to “pay his dues” politically, then expecting everyone to pay for Philly walking around money and other GOTV efforts (the attitude was “you’ve got to support me, I’m the candidate”.)
5) failing to stand up to bad military practices and budgets, because it advanced his political career to go along to get along
6) failing to honor private deals (and always making deals in private, so he could renege)
7) paying his brother $6,000/month between campaign seasons when a “full” salary for TWO jobs wasn’t needed and his two sisters $3000/month each as well. (this one should actually be investigated)
9) That whole job-gate thing to hurt the president during Sestak’s primary campaign. Sestak refused to squash rumors of “secretary of Navy or Defense”, even though Sestak knew full well he was ineligible for those jobs because it was too soon after his discharge from active service.
10) poor attendance at his taxpayer funded “day” job while campaigning.
Gee, with me “defending” him, he hardly needs enemies.
Where is Bill Healy?
Nov 4th, 2010
Seeing David Diano and Bill Healy battle it out on the message board over Specter vs. Sestak during this election season was VERY ENTERTAINING! Hell it was one of the reasons why most of us kept tuning into this website.
Love Him or Hate Him—Agree with Him or Disagree with Him—at least David Diano was man enough to take the heat after Specter lost in May. So at the end of the day you have to respect Diano because alot of people talked alot of trash about him (including myself at times) but he faced the fire when Specter lost. Diano didn’t crawl into a hole or disappear from the message board. He took his medicine like a man and I can respect that.
Now on the other hand its disappointing to see Bill Healy go silent after Sestak lost especially considering the fact that Healy was Sestak’s biggest advocate on this message board. Even when the polls during the general election said otherwise Healy stuck by his bold predictions of—-SESTAK BY 8. If Sestak had won then I’m sure he would’ve been bragging and gloating all over this message board. But since Sestak went down now Bill Healy is nowhere to be found. Seriously Bill we want to hear from you.
Man up and face the fire Bill Healy because if you remain silent then David Diano will have proven to be the better man than you.

In a hard fought campaign the voters decided, I guess we’ll all find out whether they voted wisely.
