Powerful local union backs Meehan
One of the most politically potent labor unions in Delaware County is going with the Republican in the competitive 7th District House race.
The United Aerospace Workers Local 1069, which represents local Boeing workers, endorsed GOP nominee Pat Meehan during an event in Eddystone Thursday. The union often endorses both Democrats and Republicans, but it was nonetheless a significant get for Meehan during a cycle in which organized labor has more often backed Democratic nominee Bryan Lentz. The group backed Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential election.
“Pat Meehan is going to go to Washington and fight for us, the working people of his district,” union president Mike Patterson said in a statement. “Pat is a man of integrity who will not waiver in his support of our local union members, who will fight for our families, and who will be steadfast in his support of the V-22 and Chinook aircraft that our military men and women rely upon. Our members are proud to support Pat Meehan because we know he will be there to support us.”
The race is currently No. 1 on the pa2010.com Congressional Power Rankings.

No one should be surprised. The Union is a pawn of the Delco Repub Machine-its President was recently in the news for some bad conduct. In 2006 it backed corrupt Curt Weldon, backed Sestak in 2008 because he couldn’t lose and was the incumbent. When Lentz wins, they’ll have egg on their face. Question to the Union Pres-With budget overruns and Meehan’s pledge to cut spending, and wars winding down, where do you think the jobs will be cut? Your membership will shrink if we are unlucky enough to have Pat Meehan in Congress.

sounds like this union is a “we’re for what’s going to happen anyway” union. They can read the writing on the wall as well as anybody else in delco. lentz is toast.

corruption…..hmmm. an incumbent congressman in a tight race loses after the fbi announces an investigation of his daughter. daughter is never charged. congressman is never charged. The only corruption was the influencing of a congressional election by the fbi/clinton backed candidate.
Some vague allegation of corruption is how you pathetic democrats in delco excuse your inexcusable losses when your demographics have grown for years.

Is this Union backing Sestak or Toomey?

“The only corruption was the influencing of a congressional election by the fbi/clinton backed candidate.” @Fred Flintsone – who was president of the United States in 2006 and who did he appoint to head the FBI? Looks like your wacko conspiracy theory is … well… just rubble.

Tony,
Haha good one. But theory is accurate. Curt angered so many folks and the 06 wave was already so big that one seat didn’t matter.

I like how AIM doesn’t seem to notice that every time the economy comes up, Pat’s 2nd talking point (after tax cuts, of course) is weakening labor. Fred, if you ever come up out of Bedrock, you can see corruption here first hand. The union endorsement is like a two dollar bet at a horse race, and it is usually worth as much to the union after the election. And while the union has endorsed Dems, Joe Sestak in 2008 wasn’t exactly a long shot (anyone remember Craig Williams, he came within 30 points, it was like a Globetrotter Game) and since the last 4 Dem Presidential candidates took Delco, neither was Obama (he won by more electoral votes than GW won by popular votes). Their only other Dem endorsement was Nick DiFrancesco, who is a Steward in AIM (which is a big deal in a shop with thousands of workers). The rest are all R’s all the time. The 2009 Delco AFL CIO meet the candidate’s night was as fair and balanced as fox news. The moderator actually spoke on behalf of the Republican’s during the event.
Fred, I don’t know if Delco is futuristic or archaic compared to Bedrock, so try to be prepared for anything.
