Sestak: Toomey ‘out of touch with the mainstream’

Democratic Senate candidate Joe Sestak argued Monday that GOP opponent Pat Toomey is out of step with Americans on a host of economic and social issues.

Appearing on Fox29, Sestak faulted Toomey’s support for tax cuts for the wealthy and his opposition to legislation restricting assault weapons and to legislation expanding hate crimes protections.

“He’s out of touch with the mainstream of America,” Sestak said.

With President Obama set to headline a fundraiser for Sestak Monday evening, the congressman said the president who he bucked by staying in the primary against Arlen Specter share a political distaste for Toomey.

“If there is something the president and I agree upon is that Congressman Toomey is exactly what Washington doesn’t need,” Sestak said.

See video of Sestak’s appearance below.

So long as Rep. Sestak continues to promote the job-killin gtax increases, Rep Toomey’s poll numbers will stay strong.

It took Sestak until 2:14 to mention “31-years”.

Sestak’s wrong. The Bush tax cuts need to expire. We were doing pretty well under Clinton, and individuals/families making close to $200,000/$250,000 seem to be the wrong cut off point. I can see splitting the difference and halving the amount of tax cuts, but extending them will prevent us from getting a handle on the deficit. Sestak’s wrong, and Toomey’s more wrong.

At 5:50 Sestak says: “I will buck my party anytime it isn’t focused correctly on who’s going to help Pennsylvanians and working families.
Of course, by now, we all realize that Sestak’s idea of “correct” means focused on himself and his family.

The idea of Sestak being in touch with “mainstream America” is laughable. The military environment he lived in, with servants and aides at his beck and call, or just being at sea for extended periods, is very different from the everyday lives of the “mainstream”. As a Congressman and perpetual candidate, Sestak remains removed from the ordinary day-to-day activities. Can anyone picture Sestak going to the market and shopping for himself?

Neither of these turkeys would be representative of ordinary Pennsylvanians.

    Diano hearts Toomey?

    Curious-
Nope. Dislike them both. I’m just accepting that Toomey can’t be beaten by Sestak this cycle. I think Specter could have beaten Toomey.

David, you’re a nut. Republicans and Democrats do not agree on much…but they all agree that Specter is a bum. How does that make you feel?

    Fake Pat-
The majority of voters in SE PA (where BOTH candidates were well known) picked Specter. The anti-Philly rest of the state didn’t know what a disaster Sestak is and thought they could punish Specter and beat Toomey with Sestak. They screwed it up for the rest of us, who are not going to be stuck with Toomey for the next 6 years.

The only silver lining will be watching the SS Sestak hit the iceberg it created and sink back to Virginia, with all hands aboard, never to be heard from again.
