Poll: Toomey up 9, undecideds up for grabs

Poll: Toomey up 9, undecideds up for grabs

Republican Senate candidate Pat Toomey is still enjoying a nine-point lead just six weeks before Election Day, according to a new poll.

The Municipoll survey released Monday showed Toomey winning 45 percent of the vote, compared to 36 percent for Democrat Joe Sestak. Almost a fifth of voters remain undecided, and in a finding that could be good news for Sestak, more of those voters are Democrats and independents than are Republicans.

The results are consistent with most public polls in recent months, which have consistently found Toomey winning by high single-digits or low double-digits. With Sestak having recently launched his TV advertising campaign, some surveys have shown a closer race: Toomey leads by only four points on a new Times Leader poll and by only six points in a recent Fox News poll.

Both candidates are viewed unfavorably by about the same proportion of voters who view them favorably.

The survey of 912 likely voters, conducted for the Web site PoliticsPA Sept. 15-16, had a margin of error of 3.2 percent.

Time is 1 pm. How long before Bill Healy posts: “Sestak by 8 points”. :-)

I think the reason the RAS poll has fewer undecideds is because they are also including the leaners.

Even though the poll is likely voters, an undecided voter has less reason to go to the polls. The undecideds would have to break 3-1 for Sestak, with only 6-weeks left and Sestak with nothing new to say.

biggest thing I see here is that Toomey can’t break 50%…also, there is another inependent poll of 600 likely voters that shows this as a four point race with 24% undecided…moe +/- 4%. http://www.timesleader.com/news/Corbett_has_slight_lead_over_Onorato_in_governor_rsquo_s_race_09-19-2010.html

    sick-
That’s the biggest thing you can see? You can’t see that Sestak isn’t breaking 41% (in only one poll and below 40% in every other) ????

    anonymous idiot-
I’m not supporting Toomey or Sestak. Both are terrible. Despite a relative preference for how Sestak would vote, I’m convinced that the race is unwinnable in the current environment. Therefore, I’m advocating that we accept the race as a lost cause, and not sacrifice resources.
