Poll: GOPers still ahead in statewide races

Republicans Pat Toomey and Tom Corbett continue to lead the race for Senate and governor, respectively, but paths to victory remain for the Democratic candidates, according to a new poll.

The Fox News survey released Tuesday showed Toomey leading Democrat Joe Sestak by six points, 47 percent to 41 percent. Seven percent of likely voters remain undecided, and four percent prefer another candidate, according to the poll. Toomey’s relatively modest lead—the margin of error is three percent—comes despite the fact that his campaign and its conservative allies have outspent Sestak and his supporters on TV.

Corbett holds a wider lead over Democrat Dan Onorato in the race for governor, a contest in which TV advertising has been much more sparse up to this point. He garners 50 percent of the vote, compared to 40 percent for Onorato. The window for Onorato is narrow, according to the poll, with five percent still undecided and five percent preferring another candidate.

The survey of 1,000 likely voters was conducted Sept. 11. It points to trouble for Democrats if local elections are allowed to become referendums on national policy, with three quarters of voters saying, when asked, that they’d see their votes as reflecting their positions on national political issues—rather than how the feel about individual candidates.

The gap in approve/disapprove of Obama seems to be driving the polling. I’m in the camp that strongly supports Obama.
It’s also clear that Sestak’s (false/exaggerated) statement during the primary (that he would be Obama’s “strongest ally” in the Senate) will hurt him in the General election, because of the widespread misconceptions about Obama’s policies.

    Diano,

When will you let it go that Sestak dumb your worthless rear end as he took off? You are such an Obamatron that you will never hold an opinion of value.

    HaverfordDem-
Sestak’s dumped the Delco Dems and now the whole PA Dem party. How much of his damage will you support?

BTW, if your opinions had any value, you wouldn’t have to hide behind an anonymous handle.

Pat Toomey is a far right wing ideologue (he says that corporations should pay NO taxes ???.) As voters come to know both candidates they will see that Joe Sestak is a thoughtful, caring person who served his nation courageously in the Navy and cares about working men and women. The only thing that Toomey ever served was the Club for Growth, a Wall Street tool that contributed to the economic mess we’re in today.
