New Sestak ad highlights Navy service
The latest TV ad from Democratic candidate Joe Sestak focuses on the military career of the man whose campaign often makes a point of referring to him as “Admiral.”
The new 30-second spot, his campaign’s second of the general election cycle, says Sestak, a former Navy Admiral, has “lived his life” by the values of “duty” and “service.” It credits him with “standing up to the bosses in both parties.”
See the ad below. It will be fact-checked later as part of pa2010.com‘s new AD WATCH feature.

Notice how Sestak CHANGED his logo from “3 stars + Joe Sestak Democrat for Senate” to just “3 stars + Joe Sestak”
Look at his ad from the primary
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZbzASYwvR4&NR=1
During the primary, Joe made a point of how his being at the top of the ticket would help Democrats. But, now he’s dropping his identification with the Democratic party. Even though this ad is filled with OLD clips from his first campaign, this is one few times Sestak has failed to show his picture with Clinton.
Joe’s running on his military career, and not his past 4 years in Congress nor his (current) party.
As for “standing up”, Joe didn’t even stand up to George Bush.

This ad is MUCH stronger than the bio ad he used to lead off his primary campaign. Of course it is different branding than the primary … He needs a strong introduction to the statewide general electorate.

Weren’t voters bombarded with this Mr. Military image in countless TV ads across the state a few months ago and Sestak still failed to get traction against Toomey in test polling in the time period after the primary? Lame.
Sestak could be Patton reincarnated and it wouldn’t matter this year. Voters are in no mood to send Obama allies to Washington in 2010. Military career or not, this guy is toast thanks to his party’s wildly unpopular standing in the polls.

I’m not pouting. But, it looks like you are going to be crying. You should get someone to remove all the sharp objects from your house before election night.

This is the same rehash of his previous ad, the same clips, and the same exploitation of his daughter’s illness. Joe might as well run his 2006 Congressional ads with a line draw through “Congress” and “Senate” scribbled over it.
Joe’s running away from being a Democrat, and is going to take the party down with him.

I’m not concerned at all about election night, I think I will be spending it much like I did on May 18th.
yeah Lefty, those ads were in the primary, just think about the ads yet to run with Toomey’s own words working against him. Funny. Don’t believe everything you read in the polls, ask Senator Spector.

Notice how healy is all quiet about Sestak exploiting his daughters illness years ago in tv commercials.
Also w the military pics, they should have gotten footage of Joe treating their sons and daughters like sh** and making them scrub the rear deck and toilets with toothbrushes. Shame to see someone use their service as a personal prop so much.

Does Joe Sestak really live in Pennsylvania this election or is he renting an apartment again and using it as a primary residence while his wife and daughter live in Virginia.
Does anyone have an answer for this one?

I’ll be spending this election night the same way as the May 18th primary…
.. realizing that the Western PA Dems assured us of getting Toomey as our next Senator.

Have you seen the new “Admiral” t-shirts for the campaign? He might as well have given them all mock flight jackets.
SHOC-
He bought a house in Edgmont, PA in Jan 2007. (Wife and kid still live in their real house in Virginia.)
Joe probably “lives” in PA as much as Santorum lived in his PA house.

Joe Sestak resides in Edgemont, Pa. as he has since he retired from the navy. Your thinking of Santorum.

Do you consider Toomey to be exploiting his family when they appear in commercials or is your hypocrisy reserved for Democrats?
David Diano

Bill-
Let me clarify: I’m referring to Joe exploiting his daughter’s ILLNESS with old photos/videos of her from the 2006 campaign. That’s the disgrace. Why does Joe refuse to show any current footage? Or is it that Joe just wants images of himself 4 years ago when he looked younger and a lot less gray?
Who “resides” in Joe’s house in Virginia? Having a house in Edgmont and actually “residing” there are two different things. Joe’s literature claims Joe resides in Edgmont with his wife and daughter. But doesn’t his wife live/work in Virginia for a Defense contractor and his daughter goes to school there, and not in PA?
Joe’s wife is NOT registered in Pennsylvania. She dropped it right after the 2006 election.
So, the question is: How can Joe say he “resides” with his wife and daughter in Edgmont, when they don’t even “reside” in PA?
I’m not confused and “thinking of Santorum”, but rather EQUATING Santorum with Sestak on the specific issue of residency.
Bill, face it: Joe’s a carpetbagger.

Yep hes a carpetbagger. Bill… i dont see toomey getting camera pics of his ill daughters shaved head from several yrs ago and puttin them on tv. some folks have no shame, ironically though they maliciously attacked specter.

The sad thing is that Bill has no clue that Sestak would sell him down the river in a heartbeat if it would help his political career.

Was Toomey daughter ill several years ago? The Admiral’s daughter’s illness is what prompted him to run for office, it is part of the narrative of who he is. Unlike Toomey he doesn’t have to obscure his past, he can be proud of what he’s done. No need to make up stories about how he’s been running a small buisness with his bro’s for the past 20 years, with no mention of his real jobs since he left Wall Street. Sestak by 8.

Bill-
Joe’s behavior catching up to him ended his Naval career, and ambition is what prompted him to run for office.
Joe used to say that it was the “tragic misadventure” of the Iraq War that prompted him to run for office. Joe’s story changes all the time.
Joe doesn’t have to obscure his past? Really? When will Joe be releasing his Naval records?
If Joe is “so proud”, how come he’s removed “Democrat” from his advertising and t-shirts? Will Joe talk about being “Obama’s greatest ally in the Senate”, like he claimed during the primary?
Joe’s been running his own “small business” with his overpaid siblings. They defrauded donors out of $3 million dollars they raised for the announced purpose of Joe holding the 7th district seat, then diverted them into a Senate bid that will hand Toomey a victory, and make Lentz’s job that much harder.
Joe’s going to get crushed.

Is it illegal, immoral, or unethical to own two homes? Future Senator Sestak’s residence is in Edgemont, Pa., he and his wife also have a house in Virgina, I know Joe’s daughter still is treated at childrens hospital in Washington. Joe is going to beat Toomey like a drum. Sestak by 8

Bill-
Perfectly legal to own. Perfectly dishonest to claim it’s the residence for all three of them, when at least two of them don’t resided there, and haven’t since they bought the house 4 nearly years ago. So, really, he has a residence in Virginia and owns a house in PA.
Joe’s wife DID register in PA in 2006, but then DROPPED her registration in 2007. Daughter’s situation was worse back then, but wife still managed to register in PA, but not since Joe got elected.
TOTAL carpetbaggers.

If you say 10 I do think you are just being kind. He is a nut and will take the whole ticket down with him. Please don’t get me as I do want Lentz to win and that is how I will vote. Sestak, the little admiral has been a carpet bagger from day one. Amazing that people don’t do their research and just go by who has a good smile or a sick family member.
Sadly the voters will be stuck with Toomey the nut case for six long years. They will all have buyers remorse but will have to live with the nut who is only a puppet for wall street as he is as some research will tell you if people would invest some time in their PC’s. I can tell that you did your research as I have. Most are either too lazy or just too dumb. What can I say, they will get what they deserve in the end. They will all wind up in Wal-Mart or a dollar store if they are lucky.

Former Dem-
Sestak’s strategy (as touted by Bill) is to do really well in Philly and suburbs to overcome the rest of the state. (Which, ironically, was Specter’s strategy.)
The fatal flaw is that Philly turnout is going to be very low this year. Brady, Fattah and Schwartz are all in safe seats. Brady doesn’t even have an opponent.
The result is that they aren’t going to bust their asses (and spend their money) on massive voter turnout for a pr*ck like Sestak (especially after Sestak’s primary night speech where he pissed all over the party).
Matt M.
Sep 13th, 2010
Even if turnout is halfway good in Philadelphia, and Sestak does well in W.Pa, the Republicans came out in droves in May even though they didn’t have any high-stakes primary races. Too many Democrats are second-guessing, while the Republicans can’t wait to line up and pull the lever.
Add a cash disadvantage, and the other baggage, this one’s a loser.
Matt M.
Sep 13th, 2010
On another note, why can’t Sestak’s campaign come up with anything other than “I was in the Navy, vote for me!”
Why not, “Look at everything I accomplished in the one term I served in Congress when I was actually semi-concentrating on ‘representing’ my district”?
I suppose his silence on the second is response enough regarding his qualifications as a legislator.

Matt-
It’s because Sestak has nothing to offer but a “title” (that he lost for his performance doing that particular job).
Joe voted with Pelosi in his second term for his primary fight against Specter, now he’s running away from it because Toomey’s attacking him on those votes.
