Marino camp wants some Palin love
Republican Tom Marino is hoping Sarah Palin will find the time to boost his congressional campaign.
Marino’s spokesman said the campaign is in talks with the former Alaska governor’s political action committee. Palin has made some waves this election cycle with a series of endorsements in Republican primaries. Marino already won his three-way primary, and faces Congressman Chris Carney (D-10) in November.
“We have had talks with Palin about coming to the area, but nothing is confirmed,” Marino spokesman Jason Fitzgerald told The Daily Item.
The newspaper couldn’t reach Palin’s PAC. The northeast Pennsylvania race is currently No. 5 on the pa2010.com Congressional Power Rankings.
“We have spoken to top staff people at SarahPAC,” Fitzgerald said, “and they made it clear that she is interested in Tom Marino becoming the next congressman.”
Carney’s campaign quickly used the opportunity to press Marino once again on oft-criticized refusal to release a letter in which he says the Department of Justice gave him permission to serve as a reference for a businessman’s gaming application while Marino’s U.S. Attorney’s office was investigating the same businessman.
“Perhaps Sarah Palin can convince Tom Marino to stop hiding and release the letter that he had promised to make public surrounding his controversial reference for a convicted felon,” Carney spokesman Josh Drobnyk said. “He said he had permission from the Department of Justice to serve as a personal reference for a convicted felon back when Tom Marino was a U.S. Attorney. He said he would provide proof in writing of that permission. But he has yet to do just that. What’s he hiding?”

I may buy a bottle of champagne to pop open when Carney gives his concession speech on election night. One less piece of trash smelling up the Capital.
