Rothfus says Altmire’s mosque opposition just posturing
If there’s one thing on which Congressman Jason Altmire (D-4) and Republican opponent Keith Rothfus agree, it’s that an Islamic community center shouldn’t be built two blocks from ground zero in New York.
But their agreement ends there, and Rothfus says Altmire is just playing politics—albeit with a subject that has become a political rallying cry for candidates across the ideological spectrum.
“He saw this as an opportunity to step away from the president, rather than defend his record on unemployment and job creation,” Rothfus told pa2010.com recently.
His comments came shortly after Altmire became one of the first Pennsylvania Democrats to voice his opposition to the controversial project. Rothfus has bashed Altmire at every opportunity as he tries to build an insurgent campaign against him. Altmire, for his part, has avoided engaging his opponent in the public sphere—breaking his political silence for the first time Tuesday with a cable ad buy.
Rothfus says the project’s backers should move their location elsewhere.
“For the sake of the families who lost loved ones on 9/11,” he said, “they should reconsider.”

How can answering a question on talk radio playing politics with an issue? How can Rothfus make the same kind of statement and not ‘playing politics?’
Just another right wing nut job trying to get rid of a moderate Congressman for no reason other than the ‘fear’ of Obama.

Rothfus is just mindlessly following the Right Wing playbook. Here is another play: If Altmire votes with the Dems, he is Pelosi’s puppet. If he votes against the Dems, he got permission from Pelosi. Don’t you have anything new?
If Rothfus is already mindlessly following the Republican talking points, why would we want to send him to Washington? I want a Congressman that thinks for him or her self, and can make a difference.

Rothfus is a smart guy and following the talking point makes him look like an opportunist and using the controversy for political gain. Clearly, he’s smart enough to know that the mosque issue is not gonna put one darned morsel of food on the table in his district. So hopefully, his team will get him back on message in that regard….quickly. This 2010 campaign is really about JOBS. The social issues are just gonna kill Republicans if they stay on it, including Rothfus. And he knows better….

Jason Altmire a moderate? He voted for stimulus which was never intended to work. He voted for the credit card bill and now interest rates are the highest in 9 years, And he is in favor of card check. Check Politico and see the article where Chris Van Hollen says some Dems have been given pernision to bash Pelosi. Included in those names is Jason Altmire. And I would not think that Politico has a conservative agenda. By the wasy since Feb the unemployment rate in PA has risen from 8.4 to 9.3 and he won’t admit the stimulus vote was a mistake because it all went to unions. From whom he receives a lot of money.

At a townhall meeting last night with Altmire, not ONE question was answered in a direct manner. All he repeated was he voted NO to healthcare and it will be hopeless to try and repeal it. What took him so long to determine a NAY vote on that? Permission first?? In regards to the stimulus..he simply repeated none of us will agree on all issues and gave no explanation. He boasted his voting record yet I took his voting record with me. Very few things did he vote against Pelosi and the Unions. One thing I will say in his behalf. He IS pro military and for the AZ law on immigration and pro 2nd amendment. I am not happy with his and Pelosi’s voting record otherwise.

Bonnie:
Keep repeating the ‘permission to vote’ lie that Mr. Rothfus has started. He did not receive permission and he was asked by Obama and Pelosi up until the Stupak agreement to vote for the healthcare legislation.
The bill was finalized on a Wednesday and Congressman Altmire made a decision on Friday. I didn’t know that was taking too long to actually read a bill.
According to Rothfus, he will not read legislation before he makes his decision and Rothfus also plans to never let you know how he feels about legislation when in office. If Rothfus gets in office and lets you know how his opinion he will be just be ‘posturing’ according to his own definition.
