Murphy answers a call to show the jobs

Murphy answers a call to show the jobs

Republican Mike Fitzpatrick recently called on opponent Congressman Patrick Murphy (D-8) to substantiate a claim made that he had helped bring 3,000 jobs to the Bucks County district. Mocking the claim made in an official congressional mailer as “Murphy’s undocumented workers,” Fitzpatrick said that “Murphy must document these jobs.” Late last week, Murphy did just that.

In a conference call with reporters, Murphy showed off a list of 2,962 jobs brought to the district by various companies. The list included companies investing in green technology and jobs made possible in part by the 2009 economic stimulus package.

“Bucks County companies are paving the way forward, and we need to keep investing in them,” Murphy said.

Fitzpatrick, Murphy said, is “saying the jobs aren’t real. The jobs are real.”

Fitzpatrick’s campaign did not comment on Murphy seeming to call the bluff.

During the call, Murphy did say he is “frustrated” with the pace of job growth, but said things are getting better.

“My focus remains on what we need to be doing to bring good jobs back to Bucks County,” he said.

The question is, how much did the taxpayer spend to bring each of these “green” jobs and stimulus jobs to Bucks?

@Ha I wonder if you asked those people who got a job if they cared if someone was taxpayer funded, they would so “no.”

Each one of those jobs creates tax revenue as well. Mike Fitzpatrick and the Republican establishment are just pulling at straws.

It does matter Julia. If the market can’t sustain these jobs on its own without a missive government program subsidizing it shouldn’t be created right now. We got to get company’s hiring. We need real jobs not pork.

Look — you can’t simultaneously criticize Democrats for not holding down the deficit AND not doing stuff about jobs. If you want to stimulate job growth and economic activity, you’re going to have to do some deficit spending in the short term.

And, lest anyone has forgotten, over the medium to long term the dire budget forecasts are largely due to the massive entitlement program (Medicare Part-D) and irresponsible tax cuts that were passed in the previous administration.

Murphy blows off the people in this district time and time again. Lies about being a blue dog, and is nancy pelosi’s rubber stamp. Can anyone name one major bill that he went against the progressive wing on? Murphy only cares about union, govt workers, and “green jobs”- and 200o is a drop in the bucket.

@flynnbw I don’t considered my self to be partisan(I don’t blame Dems for everything) and I don’t disagree with you. But these stimulus jobs are a joke. This type of short-term economic stimulus is largely rejected as suitable means to create job’s. None of these progressive economic idea’s are new its all recycled non-sense from Europe and the 1930′s. Paying people to sweep dirt from one side of the road to the other is not a job. The idea of “Shovel Ready Projects” are ridiculous there is a reason why these projects where never done before. You cant create job’s out of thin air. Mandating the purchase of new permits and forcing company to buy green shit. That’s not job creation!!!!!!!!!!!

Fitzpatrick asked Murphy to name the jobs. He did.

    FitzFlop campaign tactic flops again.

Well, at least Pat Poprik and Co. can keep their pay-for-play going with the Bucks GOP. That won’t change even when FitzFlop loses.

Smoke and mirrors. Murphy only provided a list when he was called out on his claims. I’m curious…does anyone have a copy of that list? I would really appreciate knowing where all these jobs are so I can submit my resume. Of course, then again, probably not a smart idea to bank much of a future on a job funded with stimulus dollars. Its a little like robbing Peter to pay Paul if you ask me. Eventually the money will no longer be there to subsidize the job and it will disappear as quickly as it magically appeared. Small businesses are the key to job growth.

Fitzpatrick is the last person who should be talking about the deficit. Under the GOP leadership, Fitzpatrick ruined our economy, spent 2.2 TRILLION on failed tax cuts and lied us into a war of choice in Iraq. Fitzpatrick has no integrity.

I am not a Fitz fan, so you won’t find any support for him from me. But, Murphy’s idea of jobs is sort of like something I read in the Wash. Post yesterday. A councilman said that they had to provide tax dollars to get a hotel built. Otherwise they wouldn’t get any tax dollars in the future from the hotel.

But, if the hotel were needed, it would be built without the need for taxpayer incentives, because the folks building would be expecting a good return and willing to take a chance to get it. Instead, they aren’t so sure, and the gov’t (taxpayers) throw money at it to get it done.

I expect that hotel to be in foreclosure a few years after it’s built. I also expect these jobs created by stimulus to disappear when the stimulus dollars disappear. Those aren’t real jobs. They’re just feel-good jobs for everyone involved, including Murphy.

I also would like to see the list of jobs, and I’d like to see how much stimulus money those companies got. If the money provided is more than the salaries received, we might as well just add the people with those jobs to the welfare rolls.

Why do FitzFlopper and the Rethugs, who profess an affinity for unrestrained capitalism and a hatred for government spending, let alone the pork barrel spending that brings jobs to districts, want Murphy to show them the jobs. If they truly believe in the free market than why do they need Congressman Murphy’s help to bring jobs to the district? Has their faith in unrestrained capitalism been shaken so badly that they need the government to bring them jobs? Fools. One and all!

    TB –

You seem confused. Can’t speak for Fitpatrick or his Republican pals, but conservatives don’t want or need Murphy’s help to bring jobs to the district. Who said we do?

Conservatives just want the government to get out of the way and stop making it impossible to do business. And if you had any experience in business, esp. small business, you would understand that.

Let’s face it. The Democrats have contro;;ed the House and Senate since 2006 and the presidency since 2008, yet now they want us to believe it was all Bush’s fault the economy is in the toilet. The Democrats are facing 10% unemployment but seem to forget that under Bush we had 4.5 % unemployment. They said that those jobs were low-paying and not worhty of the U.S. worker. Well right now there are no jobs! The small businesses which create jobs are scared of all this government takeover. Murphy says he got 2,000 jobs for Bucks county with the stimulus. That’s government paid for jobs, not created by the economy. That was created by tax-payer money that was taken from the private sector where all money comes from. Murphy is another big government spender that is part of the problem. Government spending won’t save this country, jobs created in the market will. But they don’t get that. Democrats believe your money is theirs and they’ll spend it for you better than you can yourself. Get Pelosi and the whole gang out of there before they screw this country more than they have in the last 4 years.
