Mayor Bloomberg: Joe is Independent Choice for U.S. Senate

By SESTAK FOR SENATE

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Before a crowd of supporters at Progress Plaza in Philadelphia today, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, a renowned business leader and registered Independent, announced his strong support for U.S. Senate candidate Joe Sestak.

“We cannot afford to lose Joe’s leadership,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “That’s why I have come here this morning to urge Pennsylvania voters to cast their votes for Joe this November. A vote for Joe is a vote for leadership, a vote for Joe is a vote for independence, and a vote for Joe is a vote for the results our nation so desperately needs.”

“Mayor Bloomberg is a strong, independent leader who shares my belief in taking a practical approach to solving problems,” said Joe. “As one of our country’s top business leaders, he understands that small businesses will be the engine of our economic recovery. It’s an honor to have his support.”

Bloomberg cited Joe’s shared values, independent record, and strong work ethic as major reasons for today’s announcement.

“I would be honored to have the opportunity to be a public servant like this man,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “To let the chips fall where they might, as long as you are doing what is right for people.”

The mayor spoke of the challenges facing our economy today and the need for leaders who will push for practical solutions to create jobs. He said Joe’s proposals, like his 15 percent tax credit for small businesses — a move that could create up to 5 million new jobs — demonstrate an independent mind that is dedicated to helping the American people.

‘We have a workforce that wants to work,” said Bloomberg. ‘We have got to find jobs for these people … how do you do that? Well, you have strong leadership, and that is why I’m here this morning, to help ensure Pennsylvania gets the leadership it deserves in the U.S. Senate. Congressman Joe Sestak has what it takes to represent the best interest of the people of this state. And I think of the entire nation which is why I’m here.”

Leaders like Admiral Sestak and Mayor Bloomberg, who have worked to find real solutions that put principle over politics, stand in stark contrast to those like Congressman Toomey, who supports policies that favor ideology over practical solutions.

“Now is not the time for partisan ideology. Mayor Bloomberg has demonstrated that a leader can be independent of influence and find the practical solutions that will help working families everywhere,” said Joe. “Pennsylvanians deserve a public servant who is dedicated to solving the problems we face and is willing to stand up to anyone to do what’s right.”
