Four debates in the 8th

Their rematch looming, the candidates in the 8th Congressional District will debate at least four times in the coming months before Election Day.

Democratic incumbent Patrick Murphy and Republican Mike Fitzpatrick are still putting the finishing touches on the campaign debate schedule. But four events are already scheduled for October. And in September, the candidates will host a Q&A-style forum with newsman Larry Kane.

The first debate scheduled is set to take place Oct. 3, followed by one on Oct. 14 and two on Oct. 21. The Kane interviews will be taped Sept. 9.

It remains to be seen if independent Tom Lingenfelter will be involved in the debates. His nominating petitions are currently being challenges.

Murphy bounced Fitzpatrick from Congress after one term in 2006. Their rematch is currently No. 6 on the pa2010.com Congressional Power Rankings.

Most of the debate schedule was first reported by the Bucks County Courier Times.

If Lingenfelter survives the ballot challenge, he should be able to participate. At least that way, we’ll have one fiscal conservative on stage.

I thought Rep. Murphy said he would do 8 debates?

I think 4 debates are more than enough. In fact, that’s about all that I think I can stomach from these two pathetic candidates.

4 debates sould be enough for the independent voter. 8 debates would only tax all of our opinions
