Burns gets a new campaign chief
Almost three months after the May special election, Republican Tim Burns finally has a new campaign manager.
Burns’ campaign announced on Tuesday that Jake Parsons will be heading up things for the general election rematch against Congressman Mark Critz (D-12), who beat Burns in the special election. Parsons most recently managed a congressional race in Oklahoma, and the campaign said he “has served campaigns at all levels in various leadership roles developing a broad and diverse background in campaign operations and earning a reputation for effective voter contact and core campaign tactics.”
The campaign also confirmed that it is sticking with media strategy firm Brabender Cox and pollster Gene Ulm at Public Opinion Strategies.
Burns, a wealthy businessman, has struggled to raise money since the national spotlight of a special election moved away. The long time elapsed between the departure of his last campaign manager and the hiring of Parsons is one reasons Republicans have grown skeptical about their chances in the southwest Pennsylvania district, which is currently No. 8 on the pa2010.com Congressional Power Rankings.
“Tim Burns’ record as a job creator and commitment to fiscal discipline attracted me to this race, and I am excited about the opportunity to help win this campaign,” Parsons said in a statement. “Based on voters’ anti-Washington mood and Tim’s strong performance in the special election, this race is winnable in November when there will be an improved turnout environment.”

Hello Mr. Parsons: Welcome to the PA 12th! Let me offer you a few suggestions: 1. The Burns campaign needs to offer an apology to our region’s workers for posting an entry on your official site that implied these hard working folks are lazy good for nothings. 2. Mr. Burns should apologize for refering to the Johnstown Airport as the Airport to Nowhere. This is an important economic deve
lopment infrastructure asset. Mr. Burns does not need to tear down our region to earn his Beltway Country Club card.

The Johnstown Airport is iconic of the something for nothing mentality that drives the Crist Murtha campaign.
However, if Tim Burns follows the BrabenderCox strategy, he will lose. He needs to make the case that free markets, not government free money, money not earned but taken from others, creates jobs and raises the standard of living.
Tim Burns needs to explain the job creating potential of Marcellus Shale.

Mark-
You left out a suggestion for their new manager. Talk about Mark Critz’s relationship with Paul Magliocchetti and Parkins.

“…this race is winnable in November when there will be an improved turnout environment.”
The Burns camp said it lost in the Special Election because of higher than expected turnout (blaming the US Senate race, as if they didn’t expect that race to effect turnout!). But now they are saying that ncreased turnout in November in a 2:1 Democratic district is better for them? This campaign is clueless!
Burns missed his chance in the Special. He has no chance in November! The money people know this, which is why his fundraising has dried up. Frankly, he is not a very good candidate…always talking down to district voters and criticizing the region.

Some interesting information has come to light about Sam Parsons, Burns’ new campaign manager. His work for Mike Thompson, Oklahoma Congressional candidate, was called by Okiepundit.com the worst campaign in Oklahoma in 2010. Thompson started as a front-runner, but soon swoon-dived. Parsons also worked on the Istook for Governor race in Oklahoma in 2006. In GOP leaning Oklahoma, Istook lost by 33%!! Ouch!!
This staff move by Burns certainly does not raise any confidence that Team Burns can get its act together for the November election. Now House Leader Boehner will host a fund-raiser for Burns in Pittsburgh (outside the 12th district!)?? What a waste of time…and money!! Major GOP donors in PA already know this which is why Burns has few donors left since he lost the Special Election.
It’s time for the GOP to realize that Burns is not a winner and that we have better opportunities in PA-3, PA-11 and PA-7!

love to hear Mark Pasquerilla talk about loving Johnstown, being a businessman, and criticizing Tim Burns for not starting his business here. Mr. Pasquerilla proudly sold out his hometown by closing operations here and sending 300 jobs down south. Do democrats (yes, Mark, you are a democrat) ever consider their own blatent hypocrisy?? No one individual has caused more job losses in Johnstown than Mark Pasquerilla. Must be comforting for Mark Critz to have as one of his economic advisors the guy that single handedly destroyed the Crown American empire.

Dear Tim Burns For Congress Campaign: I proudly welcome your attacks. I am fair game but trying to tear down good things in our District so Tim Burns can get his Beltway Country Club card is dead wrong. You owe the Hard-working people of the district an apology. I do have the following questions for you and Tim Burns: 1. Tim Burns once made a contribution to Santorum’s 2006 campaign. Has that been his sole contribution to a Republican candidate or to the GOP party in his life? Ok, Tim Burns got his calling to join the Beltway Country Club, late in life. 2. How many employees did Tim Burns have in this district and how many does he have now? 3. We know Tim Burns has never philantrophically invested in Johnstown. Why not? Does Tim Burns support philantrophy or is he ideologically opposed to the practice? As far as Congressman Critz goes, he is working hard for the district and he’ll be just fine on Election Day.

Why is Ted and the Tim Burns campaigning attacking Mark Pasquerilla? Because he thinks Mark Critz would make a better Congressman. What’s wrong with that? It seems a majority of the voters in the Special Election share Mr. Pasquerilla’s view.
But seriously, to question Pasquerilla’s record and commitment to the Johnstown area as compared to Tim Burns is a joke. Name one organization or group in the Johnstown area that Mr. Burns has supported or given his time to? There isn’t one!! Burns has done nothing to give back to his community, as Pasquerilla has done.
Simply put, Burns has not EARNED our support!

When stuck with two really bad choices, this is one scenario where its definitely worth considering writing in mickey mouse. I wished there was an Independent.
