Towne says he’s got the signatures

Jake Towne, the independent candidate in the 15th Congressional District announced Wednesday that he and his volunteers have collected enough signatures to place him on the ballot alongside Congressman Charlie Dent (R-15) and Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan.

“We still have some work to do verifying and notarizing some of the signatures,” Towne told pa2010.com. “We have over 6,000 now, and will probably between 7,000 and 8,000 by the time we file.”

As an independent, Towne needs at least 3,629 signatures to gain ballot access, but even more are needed to forestall the possibility of a ballot challenge. Towne’s campaign has to file the signatures with the Pennsylvania Department of State by early next month.

The announcement was first reported by Pennsylvania Ave. Towne’s campaign also said it would hold a “Freedom Concert” fundraiser on July 30.

From which major party candidate (Callahan or Dent) will Towne take most of his votes?

He’s a libertarian, so probably he will cut into Dent’s base ideologically.

However, this is definitely bad news for Callahan. As a challenger, you ALWAYS want to make the election a referendum on the incumbent. This is (one of the reasons) why a lot of traditionally Republican districts [PA-4, PA-10, PA-3] have elected Democrats recently. You want to have the anti-incumbent vote locked up for yourself, and any additional candidates will break into THAT vote.

Callahan needs to take all of the anti-Dent vote, and he will doubtlessly lose some of those to Towne at this point.

Nah. Those kook votes for Towne would have never gone to Callahan, but could potentially be the votes that take the seat from Dent if it’s a close race. It’s not bad news for Callahan at all, because Towne will undercut some of the more conservative base from Dent, and Dent will have to speak as if he’s a conservative to them while still presenting himself as a centrist in a district that is more centrist than the elections of Dent and Toomey as their congressmen would show us.

Ed H., you make an interesting point, but forget something quite important. If Callahan stands to benefit from Towne’s candidacy, then WHY did the Callahan campaign send someone to spy on Jake’s ‘Towne Hall” the other night? http://towneforcongress.com/media/callahan-campaign-spies-on-towne-hall/
To me, that’s a sign of weakness. I’m starting to think Callahan is afraid of Towne.

No one candidate takes votes away from any candidate. Each candidate earns their respective votes based on THEIR actions, philosophy, principles and values.

Only a fool would fall for what they want you to believe. Now is the time to start thinking for yourself and then vote for a candidate based on how YOU feel, not on how they want you to feel. Arguably the most powerful tool you hold as a citizen is your vote, don’t just give it away on simple ignorance.

    Good Points whrischjr.

I think jake towne will be attractive to all voters. He is by far the most knowledgable candidate on Economics which is what our country really needs, and that includes a firm grasp of; and belief in, Sound Money. He also stands for the rule of law – including standing against the rampant corruption that our political establshment (dems and repubs) represent.

These are issues that all people (which is what we are, not dems, not repubs, not any other collective, but people) believe in.

Any other candidate that is looking for ‘people’ to vote for them should be worried that ‘people’ will vote for Jake instead of them.

Don’t vote for a clown, vote for Jake Towne!

Ed H – I think you were trying to say that people who decide to vote for Jake Towne in order to vote for the Constitution are Kooks. You know, that old fashioned rule of law stuff. It takes a young conservative gal like Rebekah who has her head screwed on straight to show you the way? C’mon, get with it.
