A late start, a contested primary and slow fundraising has left Republican Tom Marino in a tight financial spot a few months before Election Day.

Marino, a former U.S. Attorney running in the 10th Congressional District, raised about $84,000 between April 28 and June 30, according to newly-filed campaign finance data. But he spent almost $124,000 during the same period, and finished last month with only $11,000 in the bank.

Second-quarter fundraising numbers from Congressman Chris Carney (D-10) had not yet been published online Thursday morning. But Carney was closing in on $700,000 in the bank at the end of April. He will now almost surely carry a significant money edge into the general election.

Along with Dave Argall in the 17th District, Marino is one of two top-tier GOP challengers whose fundraising has disappointed some Republican insiders.

Marino got his biggest boost of the period from former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, whose political action committee gave his campaign $3,500.
