Lentz collects another $230K; fundraising gap grows

Democrat Bryan Lentz raised another $230,000 over the two months ending June. But even as his Republican opponent Pat Meehan has burned through cash at a faster rate, Lentz’s financial disadvantage in the competitive 7th District race has steadily grown over the last several months.

Lentz’s second-quarter campaign finance report had not yet been published online early Tuesday evening, but the latest numbers were provided by his campaign. The $230,000 he raised fell short of Meehan’s haul by more than $200,000. Lentz, a two-term state Representative, has now raised more than $1 million in his bid to fill the seat being left open by Democrat Joe Sestak.

His campaign finished June with about $786,000 in the bank, compared to $1.1 million for Meehan, a former U.S. Attorney.

Meehan, who led the money race by about $234,000 at the end of last year, now sports a $334,000 advantage. His fundraising edge has grown even as his campaign has endured some high-profile PR setbacks.

The race is currently No. 1 on the pa2010.com Congressional Power Rankings.

Bryan has about 75% of Meehan’s cash. This is not the 10-1 advantage that Weldon had against his opponents.
Bryan will have enough to get his message out. When voters compare Lentz side-by-side with Meehan, Bryan should do very well.

    Dear supporters,

I know it may seem as if my campaign is mired in a debacle unmatched since Napoleon invaded Russia.

My polling numbers are significantly under the proportion of Americans that believe the government has hidden evidence of UFO’s at Area 51.

I am unable to raise as much money as that 9 year old with the saxophone on the corner of 13th and Walnut.

I have thrown my campaign manager under the bus and brought in a national-level DCCC operative to try to salvage the burning heap of wreckage that is my campaign.

But despair not. For despite the fact that every issue I favor is a loser in my district, I shall always and forever remind people of the great, burning image in all voters’ minds:

    PETITIONS!!!!11!1!!!!!

High-profile PR setbacks? High-profile to whom?

Dan, have you ever walked into a supermarket or the little league stands to see if anyone has actually heard of the PR setbacks to which you refer?

Even the Meehan people would probably concede the whole Bonusgate issue was a flop, but how many average voters ever heard about that? not many.

It’s important that we remember that although we’re all political junkies of some form or another, the vast majority of PA voters are totally oblivious to this race so far.

Levi Johnston’s engagement to Sarah Palin’s daughter… now THAT’s high profile.

    Tony-
Meehan’s lame press conference in Harrisburg was a big public goose egg once the reporters asked him questions and he opened his mouth.

    David Diano,

Excellent work completely ignoring the entire point of what I was saying. Go back. Read it again. And then attempt to address the point of my comment.

    @S.D. Willy

Fundraisers are always closed to the press, on both sides. Sometimes they are accompanied by a press availability, but usually they are not. Go find a real issue to whine about.

How bout your candidate’s anemic fundraising? Can I talk about that? What’s he been doing? Who is he hanging out with? Golfing? Fishing? Walking the streets of swarth more?

    sexual disease willy-
Lentz has raised over a million dollars at this point. That’s more like historic than anemic.
What’s Meehan doing? Relying on forged ballot signatures? calling embarrassing press conferences? avoiding the public?

Things are going downhill fast for Lentz at this point. Anemic fundraising. Sestak dominating all the Democrat news. Lentz is not able to carve out a single policy difference to distinguish himself from Pelosi. The Meehan people must be salivating at having Pelosi come into town, although Lentz doesn’t even have the guts to actually bring her in to the 7th district. Can’t wait to see the pictures of Pelosi sitting there, patting her lap, while Bryan wags his tail and happily jumps up into her lap. The Lentz camp is scrambling – giving Vinnie Rogaine the heave ho; moving campaign headquarters. It’s all over but the crying!

    p o’neil-
I think Lentz was getting a fundraiser from Biden and Pelosi was doing a separate one around the same time, so they decided to merge the events.
Toomey is “dominating” the news more than Meehan. You won’t find a more pathetic GOP lapdog than Meehan.
As for other changes in Lentz campaign..
Vince is moving away to be with the love of his life, who had to move, and they don’t want to be apart.
The new office is a lot bigger than his old location, which you’d expect for a growing campaign. There was an office opening party last night, with a big turnout that would never have fit in the old space.
Of course, if Lentz had stayed in the old office, you would have complained that Lentz’s campaign wasn’t growing.
The reality is that Lentz has enough fundraising to be competitive. He has an experienced staff. He has strong support within the Democratic community. He is very popular and well liked, so people are happy to help work for him. He’s also pretty well spoken and can think on his feet, because he understands the issues. Lentz will crush Meehan in the debates.
The voters may accept or reject the Dem vs GOP policies, but that is a separate issue, as both candidates have staked out their positions.

    sexual disease willy?

seriously, David Diano? seriously? way to elevate the debate.

When you’re turning acronyms into sexual slurs from your mother’s basement, it’s a pretty good time to reevaluate your life’s trajectory.

Meehan’s embarassin press-conference was a glimpse at the future debates between these two-those will be open to the press and provide great footage for the Lentz campaign. Money is important, but when you talk the differences you see here, a bif fundraiser withe the VP and speaker of the house can close that gap-and the big tunout on election day is not good for Patty either-can’t wait for the joint appearances of the Patty Twins and Terrible Tom…this is gonna get good!

    “tony”-
You’ve picked a fictional low life as your pseudonym. Clearly, you have some unresolved issues.

I was going to go with the less obvious:
std willy, but I thought it might get overlooked as a typo, or confused with the abbreviation for “standard”. So, it kind of forced my hand to be explicit on the first go.
