LEFTOVERS: Corbett on Rendell, Sestak donates, headlines in the 7th

The drive to make the governor’s race a referendum on Ed Rendell continues for Tom Corbett. The GOP nominee this week cast the blame for the state’s unemployment rate squarely on the lame-duck Democratic governor’s shoulders.

“In the last eight years our state budget has gone from $22 billion to $28 billion,” Corbett said during an appearance in Chester County, according to The Morning Call. “And what’s the result today? Our state has nearly 600,000 unemployed citizens on the rolls.

“We’ve seen what kind of economic climate this governor has created,” Corbett added. “He’s raised taxes, increased spending by 40 percent and increased the debt of Pennsylvania by 40 percent.”

Meanwhile, Democratic Senate candidate Joe Sestak said Thursday that he’s donated the $12,000 in campaign cash he got from ethically-clouded Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY) to charity. The money is going to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, which funds research into childhood cancer, CQ Politics reports. A House ethics committee unveiled a baker’s dozen of charges against Rangel on Thursday, and Sestak, like Democrats throughout the country, had been pressed by his Republican opponent to donate or return cash he’s received from Rangel.

Speaking of Sestak, the competitive race to succeed him in the 7th Congressional District got some high-profile coverage. None other than The Economist was in the suburban Philadelphia district to profile the race. The reporter spent a day shadowing Democrat Bryan Lentz. And we’ve already written about the courtship of Jewish voters in the Senate race, but now friend-of-the-site Bryan Schwartzman takes a look at how Lentz and Republican Pat Meehan are vying for that constituency in the 7th District.

Hmm, why were 600,000 jobs lost in PA? It COULD be all Ed Rendell’s fault. Or Tom Corbett could be a total moron, overlooking the Great Recession wholesale. I wonder which sounds more plausible?

Future Governor Corbett should also remind Pennsylvania families how the DC Democrats, who have controlled Congress for four years and the White House for two years, are killing the economy: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Recovery-loses-speed-as-apf-2286906230.html?x=0&.v=6

Over what period did Sestak get money from Rangel? If it all wasn’t in this cycle, what does it matter? No matter what, Toomey (and all the other GOP candidates) are going to add Rangel to the voting record % matching game they are already playing with Pelosi.

Of course, Sestak is basically bailing on Rangel, before the case has been tried, because Sestak puts image over substance. Sestak bailed on ACORN, before they were acquitted.

Sestak should use the $12,000 to pay his staff decent wages instead.

Maybe Tom Corbett has never heard of inflation?

Anyway, the GOP’s recession aside, why can’t Tom Corbett run his office with less and not have the badge of mismanagement on him?
