Former Erie GOP chair heading up Kelly’s press shop

The former head of the Erie County Republican Party has been hired as press secretary for Mike Kelly’s 3rd District congressional campaign.

Brad Moore, who stepped away from his party leadership role earlier this year, will run the campaign’s press shop from his new company, The Northern Shore Group. His hire comes as the Kelly campaign is looking to make significant inroads into the Erie area, traditionally the northwest Pennsylvania district’s Democratic stronghold.

Moore was also campaign manager for former Congressman Phil English in 2004 and 2006. Kelly’s race against Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper (D-3) is currently No. 3 on the pa2010.com Congressional Power Rankings.

“We are thrilled to have Brad join the Kelly campaign,” Kelly campaign manager Josh Snyder said in a statement. “His extensive knowledge of the 3rd Congressional District coupled with his background in communications will make him a critical part of this campaign.”

The Kelly campaign is assembling impressive talent, and is clearly sharpening its message. Moore joins Campaign Manager Josh Snyder, both operatives that have a proven ability to work with all GOP factions and independant Democrats. If Dahlkemper doesn’t solidify a lead fast, she is in big trouble. Her flip flops on taxes, healthcare, climate change, and deficits have undercut her credibility, while her rigid partisan voting record kills her image as a change agent.

Dahlkemper seems to be hanging her hat on her financial advantage, which is large in terms of COH because of her free ride in the primary. The new Tarrance Poll which has her down by a stunning 11 points suggests she has a big problem. Dahlkemper never had this big a lead in her last race. Dahlkemper’s team is not as credible or seasoned as Kelly’s. This is going to be an interesting contest.

Big name campaign people to advance more GOP failure on the economy, environment, national security… Meh.

Kelly has assembled the old Phil English team, not something I would hang my hat on.
