Corbett up 10 in new poll
Republican Tom Corbett continues to hold a double-digit lead over Democrat Dan Onorato in the looming race for governor, according to a new poll.
The Rasmussen survey released Monday showed Corbett capturing 49 percent of the vote, compared to 39 percent for Onorato. Eight percent are still undecided, and four percent would opt for another candidate.
Most public polling since the May primary has had Corbett, the state Attorney General, enjoying low double-digit edges over Onorato, the Allegheny County executive.
The survey of 500 likely voters, conducted June 29, had a margin of error of 4.5 percent.

Play the Asher card, Dan.

Corbett’s lead has steadily dropped since Feb. By September Onorato will be in the lead. The more people learn about how Corbett has ran the AG office, the more they refuse to vote for him.

The Asher card will not be played because the Democrats fear their own skeletons being dragged out of the closet. That is the reason it has never been played. It could have been played against Ridge, but they refused to use it. It could have been played against Santorum and Specter, but yet again they refused to use it. It could have been used twice against Corbett in the last 6 years, but again the Democrats refused to use it.
Anyone thinks that the Asher Card will ever be played is full of it.

Does anyone out there care that the same person (Corbett), who wanted to subpoena critics on twitter, willfully refused to enforce the state’s wiretapping law against an abusive govt. agency, the Philadelphia Parking Authority, that just happens to be the last vestige of GOP patronage in Phila?
I have hard-copy from the AG office affirming my legal analysis of the statute, but at the same time washing his hands of any enforcement.

In the RAS poll one month ago, Corbett was +16, so +10 is a lot of movement in just a month.
Still though, everyone’s still in vacation/summer mode and not paying much attention.

This will get much tighter. There is an arrogance about the Corbett campaign that ignores the registration deficit and the fundraising ability of the Rendell people with Onorato. Plus, Corbett’s mis-steps (Twitter, lawsuits, Asher) will provide fodder to attack him on. It is still Corbett’s race to lose, but he’s working at it.

rasmussen clearly favors reps by at least 4-5 points (examine their other polls compared with reputable polling firms). i wont disagree that corbett is in front, but his lead is close to within the margin of error and closing. dems hold a 1 million plus voter reg advantage, which will come into play
