Corbett: It’s just negative campaigning

Corbett: It’s just negative campaigning

Republican Tom Corbett is still taking heat for saying some Pennsylvanians are remaining jobless to collect unemployment benefits. But on Tuesday, he said the criticism amounts to little more than negative campaigning by gubernatorial rival Dan Onorato.

“He’s been attacking, attacking, attacking,” Corbett said in East Pennsboro Township, according to The Patriot-News. “He’s been negative the entire time and he hasn’t put out anything positive about what he’s going to do.”

Corbett’s comments came after an appearance at Central Pennsylvania College. Stymied to stop a story that has been stoked for days by Onorato, Corbett’s campaign said earlier this week that the candidate is “not saying anything more about the subject.”

    Desperate Dan the Democrat Dud still yapping about this? Polls taken after Corbett’s comments show voters don’t care and he has maintained his lead in the race.

    Wait until Corbett carpet bombs the state with TV ads exposing Onorato’s dismal reign as chief executive. Onorato’s poll numbers will continue to be unimpressive and donors will hedge their bets.

    @1994

    Polls also show that Americans support unemployment benefits’ extension by significant margins. If you think that making hay out of a politician’s position when it conflicts with public opinion is “desperate yapping”, I have a few thousand articles to show you about GOP “desperate yapping” on Health Care.

    Corbett will win the Gov race, despite the amazingly tone deaf advise he’s getting. He is pandering to a base he already has, where the heck are they going to go???

    The Indy and Moderate Dems/Rep voters need to hear how their next leader is going to stimulate job growth around the state and fiscal sanity in Harrisburg. He gets that right, he’ll have a job for 8 years.

    Put the right wing gun back in the holster, Corbett, and stop shooting yourself in the foot.

    Hey Adam, polls also show that Democrats are about to be spanked by voters in November, Onorato included.

    So Tom, if you want to focus on the issues, why don’t you debate Onorato? Easy enough then. The moderators won’t allow attacks, so debate and you can discuss the issues.

    Corbett’s “blame the victim” mentality so amply illustrated by his comments on unemployment should strike a real chord with true (as opposed to bumper-sticker) Christians.

    Please tell me or anyone else who reads this interchange where in the New Testament you’ll find any evidence of a “blame the victim” mindset.

    Unlike the 24-year old utterance by the Dept of Agriculture person that caused such a flap before it became obvious that Fox News had fired first & researched later, there was no question of context to Corbett’s utterances & they are quite recent! As such, they are fair game from now until November, as is his spending Public Tax money to pander to the right-wing by joining the GOP-inspired suit against the Health-Care bill.

    Neither Tom Corbett nor Dan Onorato are fit to be governor in this state. Period. The losers in this race are the taxpayers in the 67 counties that make up the Commonwealth. Zero leadership. We need a third party (and other) candidates and an end to the two party system in this country, and we also need a constitutional convention in Pa. in the worst way so the voice of the people can be heard. Enough already with total bureaucrats and zero leadership.

    Onorato has published “policy papers” on his website (www.voteonorato.com) beginning during the primaries. To say he hasn’t offered anything positive is just not true. I don’t believe the current polls indicate a “spanking” defeat for Onorato in the general election. In fact, polls tend to narrow as the election gets closer. Hopefully Corbett won’t dodge debates like he did against Rep. Rohrer during the primary.
