Barletta outraises Kanjorski, who still has cash edge

Barletta outraises Kanjorski, who still has cash edge

Republican Lou Barletta faces a significant financial disadvantage in his race against Congressman Paul Kanjorski (D-11). But at least for one cycle, the Hazleton mayor can boast being a better fundraiser.

Barletta raised almost $212,000 in May and June, according to campaign finance data, edging out the $175,000 raised by Kanjorski.

Kanjorski still has more than $1 million in the bank, compared to only $236,000 in Barletta’s coffers.

“Paul Kanjorski still holds a cash-on-hand advantage, but is not even close to what we faced in 2008,” Barletta spokesman Shawn Kelly said in a statement. “Lou outraised Kanjorski last quarter, and we expect that to continue the rest of the way.”

Like I said before, money won’t be decisive. All in all, this is much worse for Kanjo than Barletta because Kanjo needed to dominate financially, while Barletta only needed to pass the “minimum” threshold. I’m still trying to learn more about that poll, but – as a former pollster at Pace – if those #’s are anything close to accurate, then this race is already over. (Incumbents don’t come back from that sort of deficit when the challenger is so far above 50%.) I’m shocked that Kanjo ran such a lackadaisical campaign, but kudos to my former foe for sticking it out. If Kanjo represents the Democratic “leadership,” then I think an 80+ swing is a real possibility. Is it too early to start the O’Brien-Barletta talk? And I still think that Lou better buy the world’s biggest fruit basket for Kelly because I think it’s pretty clear that O’Brien would have been the nominee without Kelly’s campaign. If anyone knows why Kanjo all, but quit, I’d love to know.

For the life of me I don’t understand why anyone would donate $1.00 to the stupid mayor since he knows nothing about issues that affect the common person at all. He is a radical hate monger and should not be elected to anything, not even a trash collector. I would rather stay with the devil I know rather than a devil I don’t know. I have watched him over the years and he only tries to appeal to people’s emotions. He is a very dumb man and if elected would not find the bath room for about 2 months and then after being shown. What a pity of a person he is !

Hey Lana, I consider myself a “common person” and strongly support Lou’s view on the following issues: Immigration, National Security, Healthcare, Abortion, 2nd Amendment and Government Spending. I have a feeling that you will be sorely dissapointed in November! I hope you can make it to Kanjo’s retirement party. Maybe you can show Lou where his new bathroom is.
