Barletta hitting the airwaves Wednesday
Lou Barletta is set to take his third campaign against Congressman Paul Kanjorski (D-11) to TV.
Barletta, the Republican mayor of Hazleton, will begin airing his first TV ad of the cycle on Wednesday, his campaign said. The 30-second spot highlights Barletta’s tenure as mayor. And while it doesn’t mention Kanjorski by name, the incumbent’s face flashes across the screen as a narrator asks: “Do we want more negative political attacks, or a proven leader who will take on the politicians in Washington?”
Barletta’s campaign said Tuesday that the ad on both broadcast and cable stations in the northeast Pennsylvania district, though the size of the ad buy remained unclear. Barletta is buying TV time relatively early, with Election Day still more than three months away.
“This is our initial ad and we plan to rotate it with other commercials in the weeks and months to come,” Barletta campaign manager Lance Stange said in a statement. “We felt it was important to get Lou Barletta’s record of accomplishment and positive message out to the voters. The ad will run for indefinite period of time, and we will likely change things up as we head into the busiest part of the vacation season.”
Barletta lost to Kanjorski in 2002 and again in 2008. Their third face-off is currently No. 3 on the pa2010.com Congressional Power Rankings.

Narrator: Lou Barletta doesn’t like them Mex-i-cans.
Barletta: I go to work everyday to make sure that white culture isn’t threatened by the Spanish-speakers. Vote Barletta – I approve this message because I don’t want our kids to have to learn foreign languages.
Was I close? I didn’t actually watch the ad.
