Toomey waves off criticism of oil money
Republican Senate candidate Pat Toomey is pushing back against attacks that campaign contributions from the oil industry are fueling his continued support for off-shore drilling.
“Contributions that come to me don’t influence my position on issues,” Toomey told the CBS affiliate in Pittsburgh Thursday. “My longstanding support for developing domestic energy is probably something that an awful of of Americans and Pennsylvanians agree with, and sure, people in the energy sector agree with that as well, so it’s not shocking that I get some support from that.”
Toomey’s comments came as Democrats have doggedly tried to tie him to Big Oil.

Sure they don’t Pat. And while you’re at it, do have any bridges in Brooklyn or beautiful swampland in Florida to sell us?

@ Lee
that is funny because he is running for PA senate. As for Florida, Rubio will win.

“Fueling his support.” Ha! Nice one.
But in this case, I absolutely believe Pat Toomey. I think even without their oily money he’d be gung ho for BP and the rest of them to Drill,Baby,Drill anywhere, anytime, any depth.
It’s sort of Churchillian, really:
“We will degrade any gulf, blacken any bay, pollute any pasture, in our pursuit of oil! Because oil means money, and money is what keeps huge conglomerates churning out the dividend checks!”
That’s Club for Growth, Baby!

So, I mean, has anyone disputed the fact that Toomey’s desire for energy independence is something, as he said, that most Americans agree with? I guess what I’m asking is…rather than snarky ha-ha posts… can anyone actually prove that anything he said in that video was incorrect?

What Americans could be against achieving energy indpendence. The difference is in how we want to get there, republicans want to cling to the dirty fossil fuels (coal and oil) dispite the clear evidence that they foul our air and waters. All about the $$$$ to them, even to the point of funding the people who fund Al-Quida.
Progressive would prefer clean, renewables like wind, solar, geothermal. Nuclear is fine with me too were already surrounded by them here in SE Pa.
We can’t drill enough to even make a dent in what we have to import, all the oil that’s been gushing out for 50+ days now is about 1 days supply.

Glad the Toomey’s think Sestak is an army of 2…makes it that much more satisfying to beat them. As for the drilling and energy independence, we are not energy independent until we stop relying upon oil for our needs…got it….very simple…even a republican can understand that…drill, baby, drill….ha ha ha

Agreed, Bruce Bailey.
Toomey and the rest of the GOP is missing out on opportunity to create real wealth viz investments in new, greener technologies. It’s been the Democrats (notably Al Gore) who’ve been sounding that bell for years, and if this spill doesn’t reshape our collective perception, nothing will.
Unqualified support for big oil in the 21st century is a purely reactionary position, and it needs to die out.

Toomey is just another republican oil soaked over privileged elitist rich tea bag phonies.
Good news is his pal Palin got two new big boobs to perk up the conversation-Haley and Angle.

All this talk of “energy independence” is just so much prattle. Do a quick search on Marcellus & foreign investments. Corporations from Norway to Singapore are buying up the natural gas rights from US companies at a frenetic pace. We will wind up having to buy our own energy back from foreign companies.
