Toomey camp seizes on Sestak’s San Fran visit

Toomey camp seizes on Sestak’s San Fran visit

With Democrat Joe Sestak set to visit House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s district in San Francisco Monday, Republican Pat Toomey’s campaign saw yet another opening to paint Sestak as a lefty-liberal.

The Toomey campaign released a Web video calling Sestak “just another San Franscisco liberal” and comparing his positions with Pelosi’s.

“Sestak’s MoveOn.Org agenda may fly in San Francisco,” Toomey’s campaign said in a statement, “but it is too extreme for Pennsylvania.”

See the video below.

UPDATE—The Sestak campaign offers up this statement about Sestak’s appearance before a policy group in San Francisco: “While Joe is talking about bringing people together to focus on pragmatic solutions, Congressman Toomey is putting out the kind of tired political rhetoric that has muddled the debate for too long.”

Toomey seems two steps away from calling Sestak a Nancy-boy. LOL!

Very informative video! Joe would of spent a trillion dollars!? That is a lot of money Joe!

Why again did Bill offer a job to Joe, when Joe agrees with Nancy? Reads like a soap opera.

There is still the cliff hanger how does Rod B., the President, and the law relate to one another?

    Stay tuned . . .

Glad that the Toomey people are sticking to the issues. Oh wait… “jobgate” and a San Fran visit are their issues.

    Thanks, Mr Moderate.

According to Toomey, no one should meet with the Speaker of the House? It’s going to get really hard to get anything accomplished if those are the rules.

I would assume from Mr Toomey’s position that whenever the House meets, the 178 Republican members become “too extreme for PA” by dint of being in the same room with Ms Pelosi, too.

Does that mean we can compare Sestak to Rice-R-Roni? Is he the new San Francisco treat? Can his seasonings not be beat?

Sestak might vote like Nancy Pelosi but I think he lies one hellava lot more than any member of congress. I’m a Democrat who will vote for Toomey, In fact I may start a grass roots action committee for Toomeydems.

This is another of the talking point sludge that comes out out Frank Luntz. Everyone from dog-catcher to President , if a democrat will be linked to and Reid Pelosi because they tested unfavorably.
We get the coded message- but the voters are getting tired of the chanting and like a friend of mine said on the Reid Pelosi associational carping- what does that have to do with the price of beans. Toomey is Randy Paul, Michelle Bachman and Glenn Beck aligned philosophically.
Joe it is pretty clear buy now that he is his own. ( as was demonstrated by the primary). This sound bite crap is trying to bang a square peg into a round hole.

Joe Sestak is far from a liberal anything. Why and how could a liberal spend 31 years in the Navy and be so proud of killing people. He talks the talk but does not walk the walk.
Why I ask is it that so many liberal’s are not supporting either candidate. I am a LIBERAL and will vote for the Green party but worse case I just won’t vote the office for US Senator.
How blind can the people of PA be? Both guys turn my stomach.

Pay Toomey, just another prophet of the false faith that is supply side economics.

  14. [...] because of the overwhelming Democratic registration advantage.  On top of that, if all Toomey can come up with is that Joe Sestak has gone to San Fransisco as some kind of criticism, well, it’s not looking [...]

    Lana –
I should know better than to try this because it will only stir up the anti-Sestak trolls, but here goes:

    Let’s assume the following:
    – The Green Party gets their candidate on the ballot.
    – He gets, say, 5% of the vote in November, most of it coming from disaffected liberals and progressives who won’t vote for Sestak.
    – As a result, Toomey wins with 48%, versus Sestak with 47% and Green Guy with 5%.

Now let’s say there’s a Health Care Reform bill next year to fix some of things that didn’t get done in the 2010 bill. It goes through the same process as this year’s bill did in the Senate – reconciliation, where only a simple majority is needed to pass.

Toomey votes Nay, the bill fails 49-51.

Are you still going to crow about your purity then? Are you still going to proclaim how both candidates “turn your stomach”?

Because despite how your stomach turns, and despite whatever qualms you may have about Joe Sestak, he will vote for those things that are important to our party and our country. He will support Health Care. He will support working familiies.

    And Pat Toomey will not.

Your preening anti-Sestak purity and Green goading could end up costing us a Democratic seat in the Senate — in much the same way that the Nader candidacy in Florida in 2000 cost Al Gore the White House.

    Why can’t you see that?

  16. David Diano

    Jun 22nd, 2010

    Bruce-
I’m sick and tired of people blaming Nader for his LEGITIMATE right to run. As it was, PA mishandled his ballot challenge.
Gore lost because he ran a poor campaign and tried to distance himself from Clinton.

If the Green party gets on, and get 5%, you are looking at Toomey 51%, Sestak 44%, Green 5%.

Toomey’s probably going to beat Sestak regardless of Green party.

  17. Matt M.

    Jun 22nd, 2010

Regardless of who wins in PA, the Democrats won’t lose the Senate, and there’s always Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins to make up the deficit. Don’t forget that they were the two other Republicans (aside from Specter) who voted for the stimulus.

Sestak may vote for the “big ticket, big media” Democratic items, but that’s hardly a reason by itself to vote for the man. He has given voters, especially Democratic voters, many reasons to be suspicious of him.

But on something like health care (or any number of other issues that might split along party lines), there is an even better chance that — just as happened this spring — the moderate Rs will vote with their party and conservaDems will go against theirs. So if Dems hold only a slight margin – say, 51-49 – a vote like the one I outlined above could easily go against us.

In Congress, Sestak has been a 98% certain Democratic vote. We can assume he will be just as reliable in the Senate. And we can assume that Toomey’s percentage will be right around 0.

Why in the world would you want to risk that?

  19. Matt M.

    Jun 22nd, 2010

I don’t think people who are suspicious of Sestak are “risking” the fate of anything anything. Assuming that Sestak has actually been a 98% vote, he’s only been so for two years. He doesn’t have a long and veritable record of reliability, and frankly there are many decent reasons to be wary of him (which need no re-counting here).

I’m NOT making a direct comparison, but your logic would support the notion of, “well, I’m a liberal Democrat, so I’m going to vote for Rod Blagojevich because at the end of the day, because I agree with what he’d do.” Sestak is not Blago, but the principle is essentially the same.

While I agree with everything Sestak would, as indicated over the course of his two years in Congress, likely do in the Senate, there’s enough “other stuff” (e.g. Delco issues, jobgate) to suggest that he could very well swing in another direction if it were in his political interests to do so.

    Diano –

The problem with the first-past-the-post system is you get people who win with less than a majority of the vote.

We should have a different voting system, either a runoff system or single transferable vote, so that people can vote their conscience, and not have to worried about ‘wasted’ votes.

And votes for Nader were wasted protest votes. The only people who think differently are Republicans.

Dem Guy, a different voting system? What would you advocate? The one in Cuba? Or perhaps the one in Venuzuela? Better yet, the one in China?

I am sure with the foreign national that we now have occupying 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, a foreign voting system would suit all of the liberal communist needs of one party rule forever, but no thanks.
