Toomey asks: ‘How well do you know Joe?’
Republican Pat Toomey’s campaign has come up with a quirky new tool in its crusade to paint Democrat Joe Sestak as an out-of-touch liberal: a quiz.
The Toomey campaign on Wednesday unveiled the “How well do you know Joe?” quiz, to which it will add questions over the next couple weeks.
One of the first questions asks takers to guess who said a Sestak win in the Democratic primary would be “cataclysmic” (answer: T.J. Rooney).
“Here at Team Toomey,” the campaign said, “we believe it’s important for voters to know just how liberal and extreme Congressman Joe Sestak’s record truly is.”

Is this really good strategy on Toomey’s part, trying to paint the clearly center-left Sestak as an “extremist?”
Might this not draw negative attention to the one genuine extremist in this race, Pat Toomey?
Remember, Toomey is fresh from leading the Club for Growth, whose website, clubforgrowth.com, is chock full of excuses for unfettered economic exploitation, including this gem under the regulatory reform section:
“Establish the purpose of safety and health agencies as the identification of opportunities to improve safety and health at costs that are much less than the market value of the benefits.”
Translation: Unless those safety goggles, blade guards, emergency alarms, and spill containment systems are real cheap, all of you workers better be real careful or you’re out of luck.
I’m guessing that particular part of the CfG platform was written by Toomey’s old pal Don Blankenship, you know, the latter day coal baron whose recent claim to fame is having the blood of two dozen dead miners on his hands.
Umm…. who is it that’s the extremist again?

Center-left in the far, far left club… maybe.

Neither of these candidates can consider themselves centrists. This race will come down to whatever the PA electorate wants this cycle and which party gets its base to the polls in larger numbers.

See, Mario, the problem with the Limbaugh-Hannity-Beck-heads that commonly post here is that anybody who has a D after his name is immediately a leftist-socialist-commie-Nazi-moonbat-pinko (don’t ask me where the Nazi comes from, but you’ve seen those Tea Party signs, I’m sure).
The fact is that Joe Sestak, especially in his first term, disappointed a lot of us who wanted him to cast more-progressive votes. There is no doubt that he’s a good Democrat – which, I guess, is what puts him in the “far, far left club” to Toomey supporters — but as Democratic Senators go, he’ll be more of Jim Webb than a Russ Feingold.

Bruce-
There’s plenty of doubt whether Joe’s a good Democrat.
Oh his blog, John Morgan (who seems more infatuated with Sestak than Bill Healy) has applauded a report from Pete DeCoursey claiming that Sestak “will not raise any funds for the Party if either Burn or Groen is the next Chair”.
I confess, that I was shocked (shocked, I say) when I read this. I find it hard to believe that the “if” qualifier was necessary. It implies that Sestak would have raised funds for the Party otherwise (which is simply ridiculous).
And before you Sestak fans go all ape-shit on me… YOU are asking all the Specter supporters to “suck-it-up” and support Sestak. You are claiming Joe’s real Democrat who will be good for the ticket, the party, etc.
So, you don’t get to say all that, then back Sestak for refusing to help out the State party.
Sestak is only ONE of MANY candidates on the ballot this year. While many (not me) will argue it’s the “single most important race”, it is NOT more important than the other races combined.
We CANNOT afford to lose the Governor’s race AND the State House. The Republicans will redistrict us into oblivion. We also need to win as many Congressional House seats as possible to stem the expected loses in that chamber.
The State party is going to be doing a lot for all those other races. A refusal by the “top of the ticket” to help out the rest of the ticket should be viewed dimly.

Oh, BTW, I should comment on Toomey’s “quiz”.
Though I did get 100% score (2 for 2), the first question is not only very flawed it’s unusual in it’s choices.
The question asks who is “currently” under investigation. Well, only current members of congress can be investigated by the House Ethics Committee.
Mark Foley and Bob Packwood are both former Republican members of congress that left years ago once their sex scandals came to light.
As for the “issue”, Toomey’s making a stink about Joe voting for an earmark for a public policy center because it will bear the name of Charlie Rangel. That’s it?? I’ve got a funny feeling that the project was part of some giant bill as well.
The second question reminds me of Sesame Street game “which one of these things doesn’t belong?”
Karl Rove
Fox News Host Sean Hannity
Pennsylvania Democratic Party Chairman T.J. Rooney
Conservative author Ann Coulter
Since Rove, Hannity and Coulter never say anything different from each, and just repeat their RNC talking points, it’s Rooney by default as the unique voice in the list.
Here’s a quiz for “How well do you know Toomey?”
What is the purpose of the Club for Growth?
1) Helping poor balding men keep their hair.
2) Helping rich balding men keep their money by avoiding paying their fair share of taxes
Which candidate currently running for PA Senate puts Wall Street over Main Street?
1) Pat Toomey
2) Rick Santorum

The quiz is lame and childish. And, is exactly what tires voters the most about these races.
Lets grow up and get a little maturity here for a change. This quiz shows just how “out of touch” Toomey and his advisers are about campaign strategy. This is such old school.

Again I agree with you on both of your statements.
I will NOT support either of them as they both are really bad for so many reasons.
For the office of Gov and the US Senate I will vote for the Green Party. Sunday was a wash for all as both candidates supported Sestak, now David L will have to live with him. Maybe you should have run instead who knows.
Because of TEAM politics we really got screwed with Sestak but I met Matt Silva at the convention and he has a lot of determination and
energy. Upper Darby has no where to go but up and I think they just may now that the Wilson folks are gone, sadly we are still stuck with his State Committee members that will continue to shame Delco but we can’t do anything about it till the next time. It is,what it is.

You could not pay me to be Chairman. Landau’s support of Sestak was more in word than in deed, so I doubt he’ll do much to help Joe. If Joe fails, Landau won’t get blamed. If Lentz, Farrell, and the St. Rep races fail, then Landau will get the blame. So, to cover-his-ass, Landau will need to concentrate on the local races and pay lip-service to Sestak, but not lift a finger to help.

How much money does Sestak have in the bank? I guess we’ll get an idea at the end of the quarter when the campaign reports.
Last I heard, Toomey had around $4MM. I doubt Sestak has even half of that at this point.
This “‘how-well’ poll” is campy, and probably won’t accomplish very much, except for giving us something to talk about here.

Matt-
You can bet that Sestak will be keeping his lack of funds a secret as long as he can. His recent threats to refuse to help the PA state party raise money are just a bluff, because he wasn’t going to help anyway. By hiding his lack of financial clout, he’s trying to blackmail his way to political clout.
sestak doesn’t have to file until July 15th.
My guess is that Sestak is $4 million behind Toomey in funds.

We can hope. I can’t imagine he’s got more than a few $100k, and since he’s probably pissed off a lot of people with his jobgate response and taunting the state committee, he can’t be doing himself any favors.

Toomey does definetly have an edge in funding. I feel Philly will not come out this year. Toomey’s campaign so far (since the primaries) has been pretty good online. Sestak will need a lot of funding and his talking back to his party leaders in the jobgate story did not help.
I’m no Toomey fanboy and I probably will vote for someone else but Sestak is not winning. It’s obvious.
