Rothfus: Altmire’s votes against health care won’t kill the subject
Some Republican challengers whose Democratic opponents voted against health care reform appear ready to let the issue take a political backseat in November. Not Keith Rothfus.
Rothfus, the GOP nominee in the 4th District, still has plenty to say about Congressman Altmire’s (D-4) two votes against the measure. In a recent interview with pa2010.com, Rothfus noted that Altmire was one of the last lawmakers to stay on the fence during the acrimonious debate, calling that proof he isn’t the leader the western Pennsylvania district needs.
“Altmire can say that he voted against it, but he did not stop the agenda,” Rothfus said.
Altmire was one of only two House Democrats in Pennsylvania that voted against the legislation. Congressman Tim Holden (D-17) was the other, and his Republican opponent recently told pa2010.com that he won’t spend much time talking about the issue.
In announcing his opposition in March, Altmire said the legislation would “compound the problem of skyrocketing health care costs.” His campaign declined to comment this week. The race is currently No. 8 on the pa2010.com Congressional Power Rankings.
“He sat on the fence for two weeks while the district showed it was against health care before he voted against it,” Rothfus said. “That’s not leadership.”

Rothfus would be best served if he instead of making a campaign issue of a vote he cannot assail, actively tell the people HIS intentions and exhibit how HE might lead. Beating Altmire up for not voting fast enough against Health Care is not gonna garner any excitement to vote FOR Rothfus. The attack is A VERY BIG WASTE OF TIME!!
What does Keith Rothfus stand for, specify how he will make things better. Jobs are needed,so how are you gonna bring business to the district?? Businesses need tax relief, so what proposals are you gonna be ready with day one to bring capital gains taxes down for them. Families need support, so are you for or against extended unemployment benefits, job training, new healthcare guidelines, affordable transportation. What new schools are you gonna propose for the district.
Talk to us about results driven leadership, people know YOU know something about that… not the stuff I’m hearing about Nancy Pelosi and Altmire as the demon duo….
Mr. Rothfus, give the people a reason to vote FOR you…..this platitudinous howling is old, tired and ineffective. Run because you’re gonna DO something. Tell us what the heck that is….keep knocking on doors, but don’t knock on mine unless you have some specifics. Maybe then you’ll beat Altmire.

I think the more that Mr. Rothfus brings up the vote, the better it is for Congressman Altmire. This district is quite conservative, but most of the Democrats here are going to vote for Altmire as the lesser of two evils. Bringing up his vote against the health care bill will only help to garner support for him among moderates and independents who are on the fence.

This is exactly what Jason Altmire — and a lot of other conservative Democrats — should have seen coming. (And kudos to Kathy Dahlkemper for understanding this.)
Republicans are going to attack you for health care NO MATTER WHAT. For God’s sake, Mark Critz is a pro-life, pro-gun Republican (calling himself a Democrat) and Tim Burns tried to tell the world OMGZ CRITZ = PELOZI!!!!!!111one!
Just be a Democrat, because you’re going to get attacked for it no matter what.

Rather, I should say, if Altmire only voted against HCR for political expediency (which I think he did), he should have just voted Yea.

Rothfus is a teabag darling. The only question Altmire needs to ask is: Does Rothfus agree with the teabagger’s position of privatizing Social Security?
If Rothfus answers “yes” it’s game, set, match for Altmire.

Interested to see if Mr. Rothfus actually comes out in support of anything or if he just runs against everything during the next six months. Altmire actually seems to understand the district and the issues quite well, as evidenced by his vote against the h/c bill.

Since when is waiting to read the actual bill ‘sitting on the fence?’
Rothfus claims that he is the leader we need, but I’ve seen him speak publically four times and spoken to him one on one, and the only thing he has always said he is going to ‘lead’ on is overturning the light bulb changeover legislation.
With all the problems that our county is facing, do we really need to elect someone that cares more about light bulbs than 2 wars and a recession?
Congressman Altmire should be focusing on his job in Washington, that is leadership.
Dem Guy:
Who won the Critz race after the Republican tried to frame that healthcare argument? Oh yea, Critz won by over 10%. Talk to some people in Beaver and Lawrence County, especially Democrats, and you will find why Congressman Altmire was representing his district and not a political party when he cast his vote against healthcare.
I’d rather have someone that is votes for my interests 85% of the time instead of someone that vote less than 20% of the time for my interests.

Aw, come one. Everyone knows that Nancy didn’t need Altmire’s vote which is why the decision was made so late because she had enough votes to pass HCR. Don’t be fooled people. We need to stop the Democrat power in Washington, DC. Obama is an ideologue. Everyone should know this by now. The unions have their noses up his back side. We need someone who will stop the bailouts for the teacher unions, etc. regarding pensions. Teachers became teachers in spite of the low pay because of the benefits. Now, however, they have the pay AND the benefits: all paid by the taxpayer. Appreciate their work but enough is enough. This is wrong. Pension benefits have to be cut in order to right this ship.

Those of us that live in Altmire’s district know he is nothing more than Pelosi’s little puppet. There isn’t a spending bill he hasn’t voted for under Pelosi’s watchful eye. Stimulus, GM Chrysler bail out, raising Debt ceiling, 26 billion to bail out teacher unions and the list goes on. Altmire no bluedog but a yellowbelly.
