Onorato says ticket with Conklin is ‘progressive’
CLARIFICATION APPENDED (See bottom)
PITTSBURGH—By most measures, the Democratic ticket for governor is a relatively conservative one by party standards—both gubernatorial nominee Dan Onorato and running mate Scott Conklin reside on the right flank of the party’s political spectrum on social issues like abortion.
But Onorato says he’s not worried about any trouble exciting the Democratic base.
“We’re one of the more progressive tickets out there,” Onorato told pa2010.com during an Organizing For America rally here Saturday. “The base is very charged up on this.”
During the rally with a small group of Democratic activists, Onorato said a good ground game would be critical if he is to prevail over GOP nominee Tom Corbett in the fall.
“The better grassroots organization will win this election,” said Onorato, the Allegheny County Executive. “I win or lose this race based on what we do on election day, and how well we get out the vote.”
In the interview, Onorato waved off any concerns that a competitive primary has left with less campaign cash than Corbett.
“The primary made me a better candidate,” Onorato said. “Between now and Election Day I intend to raise enough for this race. We’re going to go toe to toe, and money won’t be the issue.”
Clarification: Because of an editing error, this article originally characterized Onorato as sitting on the Democratic Party’s right flank on the issue of guns. That judgment was unsubstantiated by reporting to date, and should not have been made. Special thanks to Snowflakes in Hell for pointing this out.

[...] Supreme Court puts you on the pro-gun side of the Democratic Party in Pennsylvania, at least according to Michael Macagnone on PA2010.com. Really? That would be news to the many pro-gun Democrats in this state who actually support the [...]

Thanks for the REAL update on Onorato’s gun position. PA2010 should do a little research before claiming he’s “right flank” on guns and abortion.
Maybe he needs to want to abolish firearms to be considered ‘left’ on guns?

I would venture to say that Messrs. Onorato and Conklin are in the mainstream of PA public opinion on these issues (outside Philadelphia, at least).
