OFA e-mails for Sestak
After going pedal to the metal for his Senate primary opponent, Organizing for America is embracing Congressman Joe Sestak (D-7).
President Obama’s grassroots arm of the Democratic National Committee utilized its massive e-mail list for the first time on Sestak’s behalf Wednesday. “In the fall election, voters will face a decision between a Democrat who represents a progressive vision for the future of Pennsylvania, and a Republican who made his fortune trading the derivatives that helped cause the recession,” the e-mail said. “The choice is clear: we must elect Congressman Joe Sestak to be our next U.S. Senator.”
OFA made a late-campaign push for Senator Arlen Specter last month. Politico notes that it took more than a month after the primary for OFA to e-mail on his behalf, and that a Web page the group had up for Specter hasn’t been taken down.

Simply untrue that it took more than a month for OFA to embrace Joe, we held a rally with OFA in Phoenixville more than two weeks ago, and then they canvassed for Sestak & Manan Trevidi. I have photos if you would like them.

Your staffers were even there and interviewed the future Senator.

The reason for keeping the Specter pages was explained as their policy of not removing old pages so that people’s existing links and bookmarks would still bring them to a valid OFA page. So, the Specter page won’t come down.
From the article:
“It’s DNC policy to keep old web pages active so that if users click on the link in the future they will still be able to access the main DNC website which includes information about our current activities as opposed to receiving an error message.”

OFA-
Some of the OFA people kinda remind me of hippies kinda gipsie- like. I never really pay much attention to them.

Bill-
Learn to read. It didn’t say a month to “embrace”. It said a month to “email.
I guess its hard to read when you have your head so far up your ass.

Is this token support or have the two camps finally kissed and made up? Or is this a test drive?
Guess we’ll see.
And I was under the impression that this “rally” was an OFA event where Sestak was a guest, among many other Democratic candidates for office.

Sestak is a suit. He hasn’t done anything for “small” people like myself, or any other of his constituents. Sestak only cares about power, that’s it. Loser. Phony.

OFA promises to be as effective for Sestak as they were for Specter. So there, even-Stevens.

Sixpack…very true. I used to volunteer for the guy. Right on point. He’s about as greasy a self-promoter as they come, except with a prima donna complex.

Check out the story from NPR (above) today. Our “progressive” president is calling for everyone to have a smart card in order to use the Internet. Let’s see how the “progressive patriot,” Joe Sestak responds. Will he actively oppose this system, or look the other way, or support it and claim that it has enough privacy protections. My guess is that Sestak will gloss it over as usual in his raw pursuit of political power.

Oh, and one more thing. Most people know that Sestak campaigned by promising various types of “security” for the people…security from terror, in their finances, in their health care, etc through Obama’s National ID Card. Maybe Joe will call for Internet “security” and claim he is fulfilling a campaign promise. Is it possible that Curt Weldon was right about Joe Seatak?

It’s not a “smart card to use the internet”. What they are talking about actually is a secure digital certificate you can use to make secure financial transactions. It’s basically the same type of thing the banks and credit card companies already use to identify you for online transactions.
For example, if I log in from parent’s computer or my work computer, instead of my laptop, or from a different location than I normally do, I get prompted to answer some of my security questions again.
What’s being proposed sounds like a way to have a verifiable identity to make it hard for people to steal your identity, without producing the proper credentials.
What’s the big “scare” about a National ID card? We’ve already got state-issued drivers licenses and other forms of ID. The states all have different (and sometimes incompatible) standards. I’ve got a passport. It’s not like the government would have any difficulty identifying me from my phone number, cell phone, credit cards, electric bill, etc.
But, if I want to prove who I am to the government (like when traveling) so I don’t get mistaken for someone else, I bring my US passport.
Identity is not the same as security. But, for me personally, being able to prove that I am who I say I am, and preventing someone from posing as me, is important for my own personal security.

David,
Is this a role that the federal government should play? I don’t think so. Also, we know that computer systems are breached all the time – Marshall’s Dept. Stores, laptops left in coffee shops by government officials, the list goes on.
On a related matter, not only will our “progressive president,” Obama, have power to identify citizens using the Internet, he will have the power to shut down the Net at his discretion (see article below):
http://www.smh.com.au/technology/security/obama-internet-kill-switch-bill-approved-20100625-z8sf.html
David, Barry Obama is a Trojan Horse progressive and a danger to our republic.

Google and Double-click have more power to identify us over the internet.
As for “Is this a role that the federal government should play?”, why not? The Fed regulates interstate commerce. Providing citizens a means to combat fraud and enforce contracts is part of their role as well.
The secure certificate would be an option (not a requirement) that some people could use.
The government databases are just as safe as the corporate ones, which you seem to trust.
As is it, some people have fingerprint or retinal scanners on their computers. For years, banks have been working to bring retina scanners to ATM machines to identify you.
As far as the kill switch, the President already had the authority to call AT&T, Verizon, etc. and get them to shut down communications if it’s a national security issue.
