Lentz camp needles Meehan after Harrisburg presser
Republican Pat Meehan was mostly panned in the press and the blogosphere this week for promising “newly uncovered information” about his opponent, before offering up little at a Wednesday press conference in Harrisburg. On Friday, Democrat Bryan Lentz’s campaign had some fun after its candidate essentially crashed Meehan’s own campaign event.
In a faux media advisory Friday, Lentz’s 7th District campaign jokingly said it would “reveal what everyone already knows” about Meehan. The advisory was peppered with the same language as Meehan’s had been—but with quotation marks to keep it light.
It was topped off with the campaign’s own video highlight reel of Wednesday’s press conference, embedded at bottom.
See the Lentz campaign’s full release below:
The Campaign of Former In-Court Prosecutor and Decorated Iraq War Veteran Bryan Lentz to Reveal What Everyone Already Knows about Bush-Era appointee Pat Meehan’s Lack of Real Experience and Questionable “Fitness for Higher Office”
Will present details to reporters through global release on www.votelentz.com
Media, PA – The campaign of former in-court prosecutor and decorated Iraq War Veteran Bryan Lentz announced that it is preparing to “reveal” publicly available information that calls into question the fitness (ethical and possibly also verbal) of corporate lawyer Pat Meehan to serve in higher office or perform even the most basic duties usually required for his previous patronage jobs. Lentz’s campaign “revealed” that it is in possession of shocking video evidence that demonstrates that the years Pat Meehan spent as U.S. Attorney avoiding entering the courtroom to actually prosecute a case had rendered him unable to make an argument or even understand the concept of legal evidence. The “recently uncovered” video features Meehan stumbling over his words while attempting to answer questions from a pool of reporters that he summoned to a state government building for a campaign event.

Verdict for LENTZ.

This just shows what type of joke the Lentz campaign is. Money was stolen from PA. Taxpayers and was illegally given to one of Bryan Lentz’s campaign staffers.
Lentz has said he didn’t know if she was a volunteer or was being paid by the HDCC. Either he is lying or is moronic, either way he has made it clear he isn’t qualified to serve in the congress.

P. Lombardo – if this really happened as Meehan alleges, and “everyone knows about it,” why hasn’t the state Attorney General’s office investigated Lentz? Why didn’t Meehan, who was serving as the U.S. Attorney at the time these “payments” allegedly took place, make any comment about it or open up an investigation of his own?
This is a smoke-and-mirrors exercise, pure and simple, with pretty pitiful execution. Lentz is cleaner than a whistle, and after watching his performance, Meehan knows it too.

Neither of these candidates, Lentz or Meehan, are fit to serve the taxpayers of Pa. It is an absolute joke that these are the names on the ballot in Nov. Zero leadership in this state, all bureaucrats caring about themselves ahead of their constituents. We all deserve better but the political system in Pa. is rigged. It’s either suffer along or move out of state.

Lentz’ patron, Veon, sentenced to six years in jail. FBI and IRS raiding the home and office of Democratic Legislative leader. Bryan and Vinnie the Crumb making jokes. I guess that is what I’d do too so that “reporters” like Dan the Man don’t ask me about issues – like the tax hikes I voted for. Nice.

Who set up that state podium on the stairs of the State Capital, did a state employee, on state time set up the state podium and sound system? Who authorised Pat Meehan’s use of the State Capital and a state owned podium for a campaign event.

Rep. Lentz should have amended every campaign finance report during the period one of these HDCC staffers worked for him, and was paid, to reflect an “in kind” contribution. This type of an “up front disclosure”, in my opinion, would be viewed as the move of a real reformer with a truly “transparent” campaign. Instead it’s Meehan bringing forth this information, although not done well, it really should have come from the Lentz camp via amended filings.
As a matter of fact he still should.

Meehan should move on from this. If this is all he has on lentz, he needs to start campaigning on his issues. Pat received terrible advice, and whoever convinced him to do this should resign. Luckily its June and all inside baseball. The voters won’t even know this happened and if they do, they will forget come September.
sick of it all

Nick C..nice try to deflect…but this shows that Meehan has poor judgment…probably used that same poor politically misdirected judgment while DA and US Attorney….who did pay for the podium anyway…and how does one get to use hte capital rotunda for campaign speeches?

Lentz did report in-kind contributions from HDCC on his state house reports. I did an in-depth look at all of his state house reports earlier this year:
http://aboveavgjane.blogspot.com/2010/04/review-of-bryan-lentzs-state-house.html
He donated to the HDCC in almost equal amounts to what he received. The “campaign invasion” was for one day of canvassing. The Republican reports I’ve looked at show large in kind donations or salary payments for state house races as well.

I agree, the 7th district deserves another candidate, but neither the left, the progressives, green party etc or the right, Delco Patriots etc put up a candidate. The Patriots actually decided not to run someone, lest they hurt Meehan’s chances of winning. So much for the Tea Party in Delco.

Anonymous & BB — see aajane’s post, these charges against Lentz are baseless, as revealed by even the briefest of investigations. What you’re seeing is a pathetic attempt by the Meehan team to make *something* stick against Lentz in retaliation for the fact that he forged signatures on his nomination petitions.
THAT’S IT.
As a former Delco prosecutor and U.S. Attorney, it’s a downright shame that Meehan is resorting to these patently absurd tactics. It’s like something out of a Shakespearean comedy. If he really believes in his candidacy, he’ll retaliate with issues, not events that were long ago investigated and put to bed.

Matt M. I do not have to read anybody’s post to support my opinion that neither of these candidates is the one that should serve this district. Pa. taxpayers deserve better, PERIOD, yet sorrowfully there is no candidate on the ballot that possesses the leadership necessary to SERVE THE PEOPLE. No one. It’s either except less than mediocrity, or move out of state (if one can find a better professional situation out of state).

Anidiotsayswhat…Of course talk is cheap, jeez, we’re not that stupid, and it’s easy for someone to post a sound bite statement like that on this site. Don’t you think we’ve investigated stepping up before simply making our opinions known? Come on, now, the system is rigged against outsiders in this state, unless one is independently wealthy. You know better than that.

Excellent question, Bill. Did all of us taxpayers foot the bill for Meehen’s Dog and Pony show in the capitol rotunda? That would sure be ironic.

How about it Dan, who paid for that podium? If it was a state employee, who ordered him to do so, who opened the Capital rotunda to this cheap political theater? Podiumgate isn’t going to die, inquiring minds want to know, did I pay for Pat Meehan’s political shenanagins? Where’s teh Attourney General on this waste of taxpayer funds for politics.

Meehan justed wanted to have the optic of being a hooked up guy pseudo incumbent. Cheap way to have the taxpayers pay for his cheesey ( and sleezey) political theater.
He ripped us all off for not just the podium but the capital police GOP staffers to pad the audience and look more serious about a BS issue.
What a phoney

If you are looking for a decent guy you would have to go with Lentz. Meehan is just a tool of the GOP and the War Board., You will get what you deserve, promise you that ! I love the Meehan supporters on here as they have no clue what they are talking about nor have they ever been elected to anything at all but yes they all have a opinion with nothing to back them up. I don’t really know if most of them even vote ! How sad they are, just puppets of the GOP with no brain to speak of.

What a gigantic misstep by Meehan. Lent really destroyed him on that one and Meehan gave him the perfect opening. It’s almost sad.
And to those inquiring about the whole podium thing – anyone can hold a press conference in the rotunda. It’s public property, you just have to sign up for a time slot and invite the press.

Pat Meehan is an embarrassment, to be polite, to the Republican party and to anyone supporting him. This is a serious matter. Pat Meehan needs to be talking about America going bankrupt and, instead, he makes baseless charges.
I am a Constitutional Tea Party Conservative convinced the both the country and Pennsylvania are headed toward Greek style bankruptcy and feel that I have to vote Republican, reluctantly, because the Democrats seem to have one answer to all fiscal and budget shortfalls, raise taxes.
Instead of talking about the issues, Pat Meehan and his inept campaign strategists attempt to smear his opponent with false accusations. Sickening. I am not alone in this opinion.
Pat Meehan’s accusations that Bryan Lentz were and outrageous attempt at a smear an innocent person and which backfired. Pat Meehan did not offer a single scintilla of evidence that Bryan Lentz was connected to Bonusgate in any way. With the voluminous amount of evidence adduced, Pat Meehan could not find a single line linking Rep. Lentz to Bonusgate. And I am sure Republican Corbett would have shown him any evidence that might have existed. Pat Meehan, an attorney, could not produce evidence because there wasn’t any.
Disgracefully, former US Attorney, Pat Meehan did not name any names or present any evidence whatsoever that Bryan Lentz was linked to Bonusgate. There is no mention of Bryan Lentz in the Attorney General’s Presentment against the Democrats. When confronted by Bryan Lentz, Pat Meehan ran away. Bryan Lentz, Army JAG officer and litigator, who served in Iraq, a hostile fire zone. It is unlikely he would be intimidated by unsubstantiated allegations. Pat Meehan, and his campaign and the DelCo Republicans act like fools and Bryan Lentz acts like a leader. GOP Establishment Groupthink has, again, given us a real winner, hasn’t it.

Meehan just looks like such a doofus in that entire display. Doofus. Complete, total doofus. Not even the slightest display of temper to make it look real!
Even if I were a Republican, I wouldn’t vote for him based on that performance.

Greg, you are 100% correct that anyone can hold a press confrence in the Capital rotunda, just contact Gen. Services and they will set it up. Guess there was no foul in Meehan doing so. My bad.
