LEFTOVERS: Sestak on Clinton, Meehan gets plagiarized, Corbett’s birthday

After going against the bulk of the Democratic establishment in his Senate primary win, Joe Sestak says he’s looking forward to help from the top party leaders—including former President Bill Clinton. Sestak, who worked in the Clinton White House, said Friday on MSNBC that his old boss has already said he’d pitch in for Sestak’s campaign against Republican Pat Toomey. “Yes, he already said so,” Sestak said of Clinton. “As a matter of fact, they called us twice.” Sestak said said there were no hard feelings between him and party leaders, and that he’s more interested in having one Obama campaign for him than another. “I’d be honored to have the president come in any day,” he said. “Although I really want Michelle Obama to come in first—what a winner to have in Philadelphia.”

Speaking of the 7th Congressional District, which Sestak is vacating, Republican hopeful Pat Meehan briefly found himself a victim of plagiarism last week. Vaughn Ward, the failed Republican House candidate in Idaho who was stung earlier this year for plagiarizing a speech by Barack Obama, apparently also grabbed a bunch of lines from Meehan’s announcement speech last year. A local TV station reports that Ward’s announcement speech in January included 15 paragraphs that were almost identical to the announcement speech Meehan gave in September (video report embedded at bottom). “I’m flattered someone looked at the ideas we put forth,” Meehan told KTVB.

And pa2010.com Central would like to offer a belated happy birthday to Attorney General Tom Corbett. The GOP candidate for governor turned 61 on Friday. We hope he was able to get a couple minutes away from the campaign trail to celebrate.

is it possible that the NRCC is behind any of this? That part of what they do is given candidate speeches? I mean what are the chances a speech given in ID and PA are ever found to be the same? The again Ward seems to have lifted quite a few things.

Only Pat Meehan would be flattered by having a teabagger repeat his tired old rupublican BS. Way to go Pat,now maybe you can tell us who paid for your podium in the Senate Capital. I’d sure like the taxpayers to afford me a venue to pontificate upon.

  3. WHO CARES IF A SPEECH WAS PLAGERIZED

could understand someone plagiarizing an obama speech since he usually gives great ones, is pretty intelligent and is the President of the US…but Pat Meehan??? He’s a stiff, can’t give a speech, after this past week I question his political acumen, and he’s a career lawyer who never tried a case and a prosecutor who never prosecuted a case…not the kind of person one plagiarizes

The GOP sure made a big deal when Joe Biden used the same phrasing as a British legislator when he ran in the primary in 1996. So I guess the answer to your question as to who cares would be the GOP does, unless of course if it’s a republican doing the plagerizing.

Biden ripped or Neil Kinnock a smart dude. He also confessed and paid the dues.
