LEFTOVERS: Corbett’s spokesman, a Rohrer write-in, a Walt Hufford sighting
Tom Corbett’s spokesman is going from government to politics. Kevin Harley, Corbett’s main press man at the Attorney General’s office, will now be the chief spokesman of the Republican’s gubernatorial campaign, PoliticsPA reports. He joins campaign manager Brian Nutt as another staffer who has made the not-remotely-unusual jump from a government paycheck to a campaign salary. Nutt had handled most of the press himself during what was mostly a snoozer of a GOP primary, but the workload will surely get bigger as the general election heats up. So expect to see Harley’s name in the news more and more.
Speaking of that GOP primary, some conservative activists still want the man Corbett dispatched, state Representative Sam Rohrer (R-Berks), to be their governor. UncoveredPolitics tells us of a “fledgling write-in effort being mounted on behalf” of Rohrer. Don’t expect this one to yield much—despite withholding his endorsement, at least for now, Rohrer has been clear that he’s not participating in any such write-in efforts. Still, it underscores the remaining dissatisfaction among Rohrer’s supporters. So far the write-in campaign seems to mostly reside within a Facebook page that, as of late Monday afternoon, had 137 fans.
And by the way, remember Walt Hufford? You might not. He’s the geologist who ever-so-briefly was running for the GOP nomination in the 6th Congressional District. This was before incumbent Republican Jim Gerlach came back into the mix, and when he did, almost everyone eventually cleared the field. But while others did so publicly, Hufford’s campaign just sort of quietly faded to black. He never put out a formal statement withdrawing from the race, and we were never really sure he wasn’t running until the deadline to file nominating petitions passed. Oh, and why are we bringing up a House candidate who went nowhere? Because friend-of-the-site Dan Kristie reports at Main Line Media News that Hufford is now back doing communications for his old employer—none other than we-spilled-oil-in-the-Gulf BP. “When this incident happened,” Hufford said, “it was basically all hands on deck.”

Sounds like his old job. How does being Corbett’s press sec. in the govt. differ from being his press sec. in the campaign. He will still be doing the same job, just without a govt. paycheck. I think he thinks he will be feeding at the trough again in Nov. Go Dan Go!!!

The Asher thing just won’t go away. If Onorato does a three week tv blitz in October on just Asher and his connection to Corbett, Racketeering, DeNaples, Bud Dwyer, etc. asking the question: “do you want your governor run by a convicted felon who went to jail for political corruption and is a shill for the gaming industry?” It’s over for Tom. ABC News did a feature on Asher’s support for Rudy. Thereafter Rudy tanked. Tom: there is a reason why all Asher’s friends in Montgomery County are losing. He’s dishonest, a liar, and a crook. And can you really be sure the Feds aren’t looking at him again??? Please dump Asher. With a million registration disadvantage, you can’t afford a mistake. Twitter was bad. Asher is deadly.
