Still waiting for ‘Jobgate’ answers
Democrats just don’t get it.
It’s been months since Congressman Joe Sestak (D-7) first acknowledged the White House’s attempts to bribe him out of the Senate primary, and yet the party that ran on a pledge of increased openness and transparency is still fighting tooth-and-nail to keep the truth about what has become known as “Jobgate” away from the taxpayers.
It didn’t have to be this way. If, as the White House has said, “nothing improper” happened, then this entire matter could have been resolved months ago, by allowing an independent investigation of the matter. It could have also been avoided if Democrats had not taken the time to offer a sitting U.S. Congressman a bribe in exchange for getting out of a race for the U.S. Senate.
But when the going gets tough, the Democrats get spinning, forcing Americans to play a guessing game regarding Jobgate for months as they ducked and dodged the straightforward and reasonable questions of both the media and the public.
But despite breaking the news earlier this year, Joe Sestak has not a shown a willingness to be open and transparent with this issue either. In fact, even at the height of the “Jobgate” hysteria that played out on the 24-hour news networks, Joe Sestak only disclosed a few details of his conversations regarding the offer and that was only after coordinating his response with the White House. But even after this obvious collusion, there were discrepancies between their recounting of the events that took place—significant enough that there is no doubt we should have an independent investigation into these matters immediately.
After hearing Gov. Ed Rendell confirm to Sean Hannity that he had “discussions” with Rahm Emanuel about ways to get Sestak out of the Senate race, state GOP Chairman Rob Gleason filed a Right-to-Know request with the Governor’s office, requesting all communications and records between his office and the White House regarding any attempts to bribe Joe Sestak.
The governor’s response? So far, silence.
And last week, House Republicans brought forth a measure that would ask the Justice Department for all communications and documents regarding the attempt to bribe the sitting congressman.
The Democrats’ response? Shot down by members of the Judiciary Committee.
These are not the actions of a Democratic Party that strictly adheres to a mantra of openness and transparency. This is a Democratic Party that did everything it could to avoid Sestak being their candidate for U.S. Senate, a situation the then-Democratic Party chairman at the time termed “cataclysmic.”
Pennsylvanians have waited long enough for the truth.
It’s time for “Cataclysmic Joe” and the White House to spill the beans.

Republicans just don’t get it.
For months the PA and national GOP have tried to get people to care about this. But except for people who already have an axe to grind against the administration, no one does.
Now the PAGOP seems to realize that the months of non-stop cable news stories about Joe Sestak nobly refusing to quit the race have made him appear tough and independent — it strengthened rather than weakened perception of his moral character.
This op-ed is trying to splash some of the mud on him too.
Well, you’ll have to do better than that.
It’s time for the “Red Herring Republicans” to run on their issues.

Poor Michael and the poor Republican Party. So devoid of real issues that they are still attempting to make something out of nothing.
The full story already has been told. There’s nothing more to say or to reveal. There’s nothing to hide and nothing to investigate. It’s all out there.
But far be it from me to try to dissuade Michael and his wishful thinking Rs from spending their time, energy and money chasing a wild goose. Investigate to your heart’s content. Continue to paint your flights of fantasy. Just don’t expect rational peole to agree to spend taxpayers’ hard earned money to hunt for imaginary snipe with you.
This ranks right up there with the Loch Ness monster and Bigfoot as figments of the imagination. Maybe the Republicans can convene an investigative committee in the Bermuda Triangle. Have fun boys.

Geez. Talk about beating a dead horse. This reminds me of the time Rick Santorum took to the US Senate floor holding a big sign asking “Where’s Bill” to protest the president sending down a late budget (I don’t recall the exact issue, but something like that).
Santorum looked silly and un-Senator-like in the eyes of the public. This goofy attack on Sestak makes Republicans look petty and out of touch with real issues. People are worried about their own jobs (or lack of), not rejected offers for unpaid jobs.
Republicans like me will be voting for Sestak because Toomey and the GOP are whistling past the graveyard and standing with Wall Street tycoons, oil magnates, and promoting non-issues like this.
Maybe in 2012 they’ll figure it out?

RG, Lee & R4S — It’s all they’ve got. And it’s been that way since the early days of the Bush I administration.
The Republican playbook consists of only one page and it reads as follows: “Smear & fear: if mudslinging doesn’t work, do whatever it takes to make voters afraid.”
The mudslinging isn’t working. So it won’t be long before you start seeing ads that have weird, distorted photos of Joe, with scary music and dire warnings about how he’ll raise your taxes, take away your guns and make you have an abortion.

I think the GOP is keeping this alive because they’ve got a follow-up planned and this story is going to be used as a the first link in a chain or as the prologue to the story they want to tell.
They probably don’t want to release the “main plot” until the race heats up and people are paying attention.
I agree that, by itself, Sestak’s dishonesty on jobgate isn’t going to make a difference in the outcome. However, if the GOP can generate a “pattern” that jobgate fits into, they might be able to get some mileage out of it.
For now, it’s inexpensive for the GOP to keep bringing it up to reinforce the belief that we haven’t gotten the “full” story and to attack Obama and the Democratic party.

The “Jobgate” story itself is minor so there must be another reason why the GOP keeps bringing it up.
I’ve heard that “Jobgate” is the preamble to a much bigger devastating story that has yet to surface. The GOP will probably wait for a more politically suitable time to disclose it. The Dems would be smart to get in front of whatever the story is for better damage control.

probably the same GOP consultant that prepped Meehan’s “bombshell” is at work here, too. Please…
