EXCLUSIVE: Biden, Pelosi to headline Philly event for Lentz & DCCC
Two of the country’s top Democrats are heading to Philadelphia to raise some cash for House candidates, and Bryan Lentz will be raking in some of that money.
Vice President Joe Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will be headlining a fundraiser July 19, according to Democrats familiar with the event. The proceeds will be split between Lentz’s campaign and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, though the exact nature of that split remains unclear. Some logistical details are still being finalized.
But having the two Democratic powerhouses in Philadelphia on his behalf comes at a key time for Lentz, the party’s candidate in the 7th District who has at times struggled to fully tap into the Democratic fundraising apparatus in the state. He faces former U.S. Attorney Pat Meehan in the state’s most competitive House race, a contest in which Meehan has a financial edge that many expect him to keep. Still, one Democratic fundraiser said the event would be “huge, a game-changer” for Lentz.
The heavy lifting for the fundraiser is being handled by, among others, Democratic powerhouse David L. Cohen, the Comcast executive, and prominent attorney Dan Berger. The event was originally planned as a fundraiser with just Biden and Lentz. But the DCCC was separately planning a fundraiser for Pelosi to attend the same day, and the two were combined rather than risk having them compete.
“It’s going to be huge,” one Democrat said.

That’s probably going to be an expensive big-ticket event. Should raise a lot of money.

Hey Dan, as long as you’re going to be there with Nancy and Joe “we can’t save all the jobs” Biden, you should ask them for a bailout. They give them out like candy these days and as long as you’re having trouble finding sponsors for your site… Just an idea

That’s funny. There’s usually a pretty solid contingent of Lentz people posting in these comments.
Then again, if the most unpopular public figure in American politics since King George III was coming to town to campaign with my candidate, I guess I’d be keeping a pretty low profile, too.

This tells me that Lentz Campaign and Ds have done polling and think they have good chance of prevailing in November. I would not be surprised. Bryan Lentz, whether you agree with his policies, is a leader and Pat Meehan is not. Many are attracted to leaders no matter where they are leading. It is too bad the Rs are so self serving that they choose someone like Pat Meehan.

Yo, Tony! Youse got a short memory. King George Bush Jr. is the most unpopular figure in America. Still. Youse remember him, yo? The guy who got us into two wars (but couldn’t win a one) and presided over the collapse of the Western economy, yo!

Ralph Nader was correct: Washington DC is corporate occupied territory. Delco is too. Both Meehan and Lentz are and will be beholden to special interest groups rather than to the people. It’s time to pass Joe Sestak and Arlen Specter’s sponsored bill to start voluntary public financing of congressional campaigns. Both parties can smoke the bone.
