Corbett says Twitter subpoena was legit
Attorney General Tom Corbett on Tuesday issued one of the most direct defenses of his office’s much-criticized decision to subpoena Twitter for information on two anonymous critics, saying the judge who signed the subpoena “agreed with us it had a legitimate purpose, and the legitimate purpose was not going after people who were criticizing me.”
Corbett, during an appearance on Fox29, reiterated his office’s contention that the subpoena was a proper way to demonstrate that Brett Cott, a former Democratic aide recently sentenced in the Bonusgate probe, was not remorseful. Cott is widely believed to be the person behind at least one of the Twitter accounts. Twitter fought the subpoena, and it became a moot point legally when Cott was sentenced last month.
Corbett, the GOP nominee for governor, strenuously denied that he was squashing critics.
“Criticism doesn’t bother me whatsoever,” he said. “If it does you get out of the business.”

How is Brett Cott “widely believed” to be the person behind one of the two Twitter accounts? The only ‘evidence’ I’ve seen to that effect is Tom Corbett’s assertion.
Can someone explain this to me?

Corbett’s a joke…a paper tiger. The only thing that is sad is that I do not think his opposition, Mr. Onorato, is that strong a candidate. If Onorato proves to be a bit stronger than suspected, I believe he can take this from Corbett. It is important thought that the Onorato campaign continue to work and take positions because I believe Corbett’s weakness is putting forth positions in the face of opposition.

The fact that Corbett did not learn a lesson from this and still believes that he did nothing wrong by issuing the subpoena demonstrates how arrogant he actually is. Save us all if this blinded-by-power guy gets elected governor. Will he have a hit squad to investigate and subpoena everone who writes something critical of him on a blog?

Corbett is dangerous and would be suppressive if elected, I am not a favorite of Onorato, but Conklin is a good man, and that is worth it to vote for the ticket of Onorato / Conklin.

Dem Guy – there was an article in the Trib that outed Cott as the author last year.

I have no time for Tom Corbett but Bob Asher is a very decent honest man who got a raw deal when Budd Dwyer was framed. Bob Asher is the very best of a bad bunch.
Best wishes,

It is most interesting how closely Corbett resembles the former Facist leader of Italy, Benito Mussolini aka Il Duce. All he is missing are the hobnail boots, the riding crop, and the helmet. He has already demonstrated the characteristics of a Fascista by accusing someone he prosecuted as “one of those” behind the blog in which he is negatively exposed. Apparently he is simply attempting to refocus blame away from his own aberrant behavior. In addition to his lack of skills to act as our next Governor, he appears to revel in the role of a dictator. Let us all take caution and vote for a candidate who has demonstrated he has the skills to lead us out of the financial crisis in which we currently find our State without resorting to the tactics of IlDuce!!

Jeff – First, I don’t trust anything written by the Trib, particularly political matters.
But Corbett’s justification for the subpoena was to show Cott’s lack of remorse—as it pertains to this case. Is something Cott said last year relevant, even if it was Cott that in fact said it?
The whole thing is crap. It’s a bullshit subpoena to try to intimidate his critics. The justification is just that, a justification. There’s no substance behind it.

The Asher problem won’t go away. He went to jail for racketeering, conspiracy and perjury. A dispicible man responsible for more turmoil in SE PA than any single person in history. This id Corbett’s main guy? An ad campaign on this issue along by Onorato would be devastating.
