Clarifications (of the editing kind)
We had a couple recent slip-ups created not by our intrepid reporters, but by yours truly during the editing process. It’s important that our people in the field not be blamed for mistakes that aren’t of their making, and that’s why corrections or clarifications of this nature always start by saying they happened “because of an editing error…”
A reminder that you can always view all corrections and clarifications by clicking on the Corrections tag.
Because of an editing error, an article on June 7 about Democrat Dan Onorato and his gubernatorial ticket with Scott Conklin characterized Onorato as sitting on the Democratic Party’s right flank on the issue of guns. That judgment was unsubstantiated by previous reporting to date, and should not have been made. Special thanks to Snowflakes in Hell for pointing this out.
Because of an editing error, an article on May 27 about Democrat John Callahan’s efforts to tie Republican Charlie Dent to Wall Street gave an incomplete description of Callahan’s stance on the 2008 financial bailouts. Callahan’s campaign manager said at the time that he would have voted for the first version of the bill because of the economic crisis, but would not have backed the second and final version without additional protections to guard against future bailouts. Since then, Callahan has adamantly said that he would have opposed both bailout measures.
