Casey to headline Callahan fundraiser
BETHLEHEM—Pennsylvania’s senior senator is ready to go to bat for White House recruit John Callahan.
Senator Bob Casey will attend a fundraiser here Friday for Callahan, the Democratic nominee in the 15th Congressional District. Those looking for a chance gab with the Bethlehem mayor and Casey need to dole out at least $75 for admission to the event, which is being held at a private residence.
“The event will go a long way towards helping us meet our critical June 30th fundraising goal,” the Callahan campaign wrote in an e-mail to supporters.
Callahan faces Congressman Charlie Dent (R-15), in a race that is currently No. 5 on the pa2010.com Congressional Power Rankings.

$75 admission to a US Senator fundraiser? Normally seems absurdly low, but you have to remember it’s Sen Casey.
He should be out in California to help Sen Boxer. If she loses, he is in line to be the dumbest US Senator.

At the time Dave wrote his post he probably couldn’t name a Senate Committee Sen. Casey sits on let alone legislation he has worked on in the Senate. If you are going to attack someone in regard to their intellect, or lack thereof, at least come up with something better than simply calling them dumb.
In regard to the low cost of attending the fundraiser Dave might want to remember that incumbent Senator Rick Santorum outspent Casey by 150%, or roughly $27 million to $18 million, in the 2006 Senate race and resoundingly lost by 17 points.
I am happy that Sen. Casey is stepping into the role of State Party Patriarch. Pennsylvania Democrats need the new style of leadership that Sen. Casey has to offer; hold steady in a storm and don’t over extend when you have the enemy on the run.

$75 is absurdly low for a fundraiser with a US Senator as headliner. I would like to see some additional information about this.
My educated guess is there is a VIP reception beforehand, something like ‘an intimate reception with Senator Casey’ for a cool 1k a piece.
Also, there are probably tiered donation levels, which may or may not buy access to Casey. Something like $75 for “Friend” $250 for “Benefactor” and $500 for “Great American”.
