‘Barrell of a Gun’

The wait is over. The much talked about film concerning Mumia Abu-Jamal and his killing of Philadelphia police officer, Daniel Faulkner, “Barrel of a Gun” will have its gala premiere on Sept. 21 at 7pm at the Merriam Theater.

Philadelphia’s top filmmaker, Tigre Hill, spent the better part of four years unraveling the mystery behind the man, and what made him into the man he has become, and most importantly, why he shot Officer Daniel Faulkner. Hill doesn’t show one side of the argument—he interviews both sides, and does so with fairness and objectivity. Abu-Jamal, the black journalist turned cab driver, has become a cause celebre. But Hill painstakingly researches and uncovers previously undisclosed information, especially, “rare new insight” and asserts that the killing was premeditated.

This groundbreaking film includes on-camera interviews with parties from both sides that include widow Maureen Faulkner; Gov. Ed Rendell; prosecutor Joe McGill; Former Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham, and current D.A. Seth Williams; Abu-Jamal attorney Robert Bryan; Hollywood celebrities Ed Asner, Mike Farrell, Danny Glover, and Sister Helen Prejean of “Dead Men Walking” fame; City Councilman Jack Kelly; former Philadelphia police commissioner Sylvester Johnson; Pam Africa, head of The International Concerned Friends and Family of Mumia Abu-Jamal and close ally of MOVE founder John Africa; author David Horowitz,  and radio talk show host Michael Smerconish. Investigative journalist Gerald Posner advised on the movie’s production.

For anyone who is familiar with Hill’s amazing film, “Shame of the City” that documented the bug planted in Mayor Street’s office, and his victory over Sam Katz, you know this film will become the talk not just of Philadelphia—but of the country. Hill captures the passion, belief and vehemence that is the core and substance of this movie.

Philadelphia’s own Kevin Kelly is executive producer.

Anti-Aborts and Jamal, aka Westley Cook, have a lot in common:

    They murder who they hate.
