Trivedi makes a late-game loan

Trivedi makes a late-game loan

With his primary showdown against the well-funded Doug Pike just days away, 6th District Democratic hopeful Manan Trivedi is reaching a bit deeper into his own wallet.

Trivedi, a Reading doctor, loaned his campaign $36,000 late last week, according to newly-filed campaign finance data. He entered the month facing a large cash-on-hand deficit against Pike, a former Inquirer editorial writer who has put about $1 million in his campaign over the last year.

“Manan has always intended to make an investment into his campaign, and he has been saving up to do so,” campaign manager Ed Niles told pa2010.com. “Now that the campaign is in the middle of an aggressive voter contact program, it seemed like the best time for Manan to make that investment.”

Pike took his message to TV over the weekend, and has also done two large direct-mail campaigns. Trivedi is also doing direct mail, but it’s unlikely he’ll be able to afford any significant amount of TV time. The majority of the local party establishment is behind his campaign, while much of the organized labor community is with Pike.

The two are competing for the chance to take on Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6). The district is currently ranked No. 6 on the pa2010.com Congressional Power Rankings.

Really Bruce? Grow up. Anyone from the Trivedi campaign want to own up that you’re so desperate comments like that need to be made an issue, you need to make loans to yourself (btw, Pike’s WERE NOT LOANS, HE’S ALL IN) and you have to lie about Pike’s record on veterans. How could Pike HAVE ANY record against veterans?

This is very late. I can’t see this doing much. Pike is a marginally better candidate than Trivedi, but if this is the level Trivedi is at a week out from the primary, he’s is going to be squashed in the general. It’s sad, because that’s something the Pike campaign has been trying to press, but it’s true. And what’s the point really. Gerlach is going to out spend and out raise by 2 or 3 fold and smear Trivedi. They already said they didn’t want to face him. COME ON!!! What a freaking ploy….they know how easy it would be take him on.
