Poll: Sestak up 3 against Toomey

Poll: Sestak up 3 against Toomey

UPDATE APPENDED (See bottom)

Democrat Joe Sestak continues to enjoy some post-primary momentum, holding a three-point lead over Republican Senate rival Pat Toomey, according to a new poll.

The Daily Kos/Research 2000 survey released this week showed Sestak edging Toomey by three points, 43 percent to 40 percent, with 17 percent of voters still undecided.

Sestak’s late-campaign surge before his primary win against Arlen Specter has left him holding narrow leads against Toomey in public polls months before the general election.

The survey of 400 likely voters, conducted May 24 to May 26, had a margin of error of four percent.

UPDATE: In June 2010, Daily Kos disavowed all polling data provided by Research 2000, alleging fraud. As of July 2010, Research 2000 had denied wrongdoing but taken down its Web site.

This poll, like any other horse-race polls six months before Election Day, is only meaningful because we now know the two candidates who’ll be facing off.

There’s too much weak support, too many undecideds and way too much time between now and when people vote. This race won’t really get started until after Labor Day. Until then, don’t put much stock in these numbers.

    Bruce-

I agree with one qualification. These polls demonstrate that there is no clear favorite. Both of these guys have a genuine shot.

I don’t believe that anyone can outwork Sestak. I’d like to know how much money he has left over from the primary. Fundraising may be his first priorty now and up to Labor Day.

The Daily Kos poll with, of course a Democrat leading, is akin to having Barney Frank vote for the Playboy Playmate of the Year.

95 – For the record, Research 2000 is one of the more reliable polls in the business. And it’s transparent – all the crosstabs, questions, etc. are available for anybody to check out. Once you’ve done the research, come on back and tell us specfically what problems you’ve found with their methodology.

Children, please play nice…Polls don’t matter…but it is insightful. It is telling that when you consioder that Toomey ahs run statewide before, was a congressman for like 6 years, and was teh man in charge of the club for growth for a bit…and Sestak has taken a beating since the primary by the media and so-called conservatives over an insignifuicant issue Sestak is still ahead…noone has even focusd on Toomey’s friends at teh club for Growth yet and their radical positions??? this should be fun!

Oh.. research 2000 sucks. Lol don’t care. Once people see Sestaks voting record and take a smell of it, people will run. Wait till the campaign starts and he runs on his military career

I think my state will care more about their “record” Sestaks is heavily anti-PA

    May 28th, 2010

Sestaks is heavily anti-PA really november?

With toomey who worked for Wall St. and ran Club for Growth which is a Wall St.PAC just how anti Main St. is Pat Toomey.

@Dave lewis-Just remember that when you go to Club For Growth’s webpage Michelle Bachman (the Jane Orie Look-a-like) is Pat Toomey’s running mate wiht the Club for Growth…she is the top-rated CFG candidiate…
the fall campiagn will be great…for anyone running against Toomey…can’t wait to read more.

Everyone must read the “club for growth” manefesto. It is the same trite tea bag slogans without any substance. It’s third grade level reading.
Tomey/Palin/Limbaugh/Hannity/Paul and the rest who have hopped into the dog sled to hateville should offer concrete solutions to all the problems they bitch about not the childish name calling.
They want smaller government except when BP and Haliburton screw an entire hemisiphere.
They want less covernment except when they want to get rid of hispanics.
They want to get back to the “constuition” except for the parts the don’t like e.g. people born in the states are “citizens” etc.
I can take diagreements by rank gibberish is getting on my last good nerve! ( as my mom used to say)

    @ Dave
Oh no. Toomey worked in a bank! Oh God! Toomey was against the bailouts. He said it was the federal reserve that had the fault along with freddie and fannie. Oh and Club for Growth! Oh god. I’m sure that when people hear about Sestak being an incumbent in the house, everyone will cheer. We all love Congress so much! He is a straight Nancy Pelosi voter.
Obamacare is over 60% unpopular in PA. Sestak voted for it. Cap and Trade will kill PA’s coal industry. Sestak voted for it. Please. He has no leg to stand on other than his military career which I thank him for but should be no way a reason to hold a public office.

  14. november

    May 28th, 2010

    @ Good
    Nice strawman you built there.

  15. Another way of looking at it...

    May 28th, 2010

Sestak’s got to be the favorite, he’s got the resume built to attract voters from the middle of the state and he’s got the D by his name that gets him the support of the cities…Toomey is just a right-wing ideologue, with no appeal outside the Republican Party….

  16. David Diano

    May 28th, 2010

This poll is before the whole Sestak lied by calling the White House offer a “job” issue.

None of these polls matter as the key issue come November will be the unemployment numbers and whether voters want MORE or LESS Obama job policy.

  17. november

    May 28th, 2010

@Another way of looking at it…

LOL. You people love to build strawmen. Sestak has a record most of PA would disapprove of. What “resume”. You mean his Navy service? You must think people in PA are frickin stupid.

  18. Goodnaturedcynic

    May 28th, 2010

A “straw” argument is built on a fallacy. Tell me the Club for Growth is anything other than a Dick Armey/Roger Ales/Newt Gingrich trojan horse.

great fun to sit back and watch everyone spouting how democrats in general and joe sestak in particular are not for PA…Pennsylvania may not be Pelosi liberal, but neither is Sestak…One thing is certain…PA is not supporting raidcal teabagger CFG guys either.
There is a clear choice in November: A former 3 star admiral, graduate at top of class from Annapolis with a PhD from Harvard, commander of a battle group during wartime, member of the national security staff, versus a teabagging radical wingnut who traded and profited in the very casino he deregulated and that put us on the brink of depression after he voted for Bush’s blank check wars. If the state goes Toomey, it really needs an enema and a brain transplant.

    Goodnaturedcynic

You have the nerve to blast Armey, Gingrich, Bachmann and the Repubs? Last time, I looked they weren’t the ones to pass government run hc while the majority of Americans opposed it. On top of that, most of them hadn’t even read the bill. If Sestak and Dems trust the public so much why did they attach the student loan bill to it? It is all about taking economic control over our lives. The public is fed up with the crooked Democratic party especially under Obama – aka our Alien in Chief.

Go back to Organizing for America…..

  27. EWard

    May 29th, 2010

    Sick Of It All

There is a clear choice between Toomey and Sestak.

Do we choose a Congressman that is part of a WH coverup about a job offer? Sestak states that Clinton called him once about the WH job offer. Yet, the WH memo talks about a two month period in which efforts were made to determine if Sestak would be interested in an advisory spot.

One party rule doesn’t work. Bills are rammed through Congress despite what the public wants. Sestak’s vote for HC proves he’s a party hack.

  28. november

    May 29th, 2010

    @ Sick

McCain was a war hero. Not just a veteran but he was POW and stayed by his own will. And he still lost. Keep clinging to Sestaks’s veteran status. It ain’t going to work. I guarantee you that people hate washington more than wall street and Sestak is currently a part of it. He will get screwed….

    —————————

Wow! You have a nice spin! Doesn’t Toomey have a degree from Harvard and was a former small business owner? I think more people can relate to a small business owner than some mediocre admiral.

Anyway, lets discuss his policies and voting record…..Oh what…. you don’t want to discuss it? Oh yeah thats right, because it sucks and is lin with every single liberal democrat people in PA hate. Keep trying to tow his military career. Sure worked with McCain….. Oh wait!

  32. sick of it all

    May 30th, 2010

@november-Can’t wait til Toomey’s voting record and the Club for Growth and Tea Party stuff if front and center…Sestak’s is open too…Me and a majority of PA will take Sestak’s anytime. Sestak’s background crushes Toomey too…just deal with that.
The McCain analogy is a hoot…he was better off before Caribou Barbie showed and he showed he was out of touch with America. Republican startegists just think everyone is stupid and would go for the old white guy with the young moose-slayer of his arm over the african american with the old white guy with hair plugs and perfect teeth…listen…the republican brand is damaged and they have not done a good job rehabbing it.
@eward–no cover-up when it is all disclosed…Joe has said it all…Obama too…I know you all want to distract form the cmparison between sestak and toomey bio and record but you guys now look stupid keeping up that tired old talking point.

  33. EWard

    sick of it all

Get a new script. The Democratic party is out of control. Americans are overtaxed, unemployed, and stuck with government run hc. The Death panel analogy is correct. Already, there is a commission to discuss medicare cuts. These are benefits that most Americans have already paid for. Breast cancer screenings are being discouraged.

Read the WH memo about Sestak’s job offer. It’s online. They state over a two month period efforts were made to find Sestak a position. Yet, Sestak said on Friday, it was one phone call from Clinton. It doesn’t pass the smell test.

Out of touch???? How about a Democratic party that mocks the middle class, the backbone of this country and passes stimulus, omnibus, pay raises that their constituients oppose.

Look stupid???? You are someone that supports a candidate that has given our Alien in Chief a blank check to bankrupt this country. You are a disgusting human being- go back and eat your cheetos….

Gee Nov. what part of healthcare do you think Pennsylvanians reject the most? The part where their children can stay on the parents HC coverage till age 24? Or do you think Pa. citizens are pikers who will resent having to pay for their healthcare, what ever happened to the anti-free lunch repubs, the take personal responsibility repubs, did they all leave the crumbling ever shrinking repub party in Pa. Good luck in Nov with dirivitive trader, sponser of laws that lead to our economic downfall Pat Toomey.BTW 95% of Americans got a taxcut from the stimulus bill you can send yours back anytime you want too.

    May 30th, 2010

LOL GOP, Got waxed in the past two elections and think if they just keep offering the same failed prescriptions for our nations problems that they can win again. Repubs your agenda of deregulation has destroyed the Middle class and our enviornment, somehow I doubt the idea of deregulating oil companies and not running a deficit to help out those in trouble through no fault of their own is going to get much support from gulf coast tea bagger republicans. Bobbie Jindal looks like a man with a paper ass calling for even more federal money, likewise all those Naveville Tn. teabaggers waiting for federal money to bail them out too.

  40. EWard

    May 30th, 2010

You are one sick man! Jindal is attempting to avert an environmental disaster and you’re laughing that he needs help. What does Obama do but attend two fundraisers in CA for Boxer, play golf every Sunday, meet with sports teams at the WH, and say he’s being briefed daily.

Obama, Sestak and other Dems play the immigration race card to remain in power while the biggest environmental disaster is unfolding in the Gulf. The government is responsible to clean up the oil to mitigate an environmental catastrope while BP stops the leak. The Dems and Sestak didn’t have any problem giving money to Unions, car companies, etc. And you’re laughing.

The DP use to be a great political force but under Obama’s leadership and Sestak’s enabling, it has become a cancer.

  41. bill healy

    May 30th, 2010

Needs help with that Drill,Baby,Drill? sounds like the state of La. has a problem, why should my tax dollars go to bail La. out of it’s problem.
Oh,my god,you make Obama sound like he has the saem lacadasical approuch to disaster’s as bush. Deregulation of the oil industry and appointing those who are willing to look the other way when environmental regulations are being ignored by that industry is the hallmark of reagan republicanism, imagine if the repubs used that same philosophy to regulate our banks. Opps they already did that with the help of Toomey.
Why do you think the govt. should be responsible, the govt. didn’t spill the oil, the govt. didn’t ignore the signs of an impendeing blowout. Just like a repub, let the corp. that does the dirty deed off the hook and blame the govt. Don’t you even believe your own teabagger rhetoric? Don’t you know the govt. can’t do anything right (especially when repubs are in charge).
Admit it, it’s the part about no longer being able to hitch a free ride on the premiums I pay for Healthcare that really riles you. Guess repubs think the free lunch really does exist.

  42. sick of it all

    May 30th, 2010

according to repubs tho the free lunch is only for the rich. sad to see nov go…but i do predict she’ll be back under a different name. Still think more of PA is more like sestak than the club for growther toomey…small business experience? i would like to know what the definition by small business? the mom and pop stores being put out of business by walmart and home depot? or the multi-million derivative trader business as opposed to the multi-billion dollar business? or the multi-million defense contractor as opposed to the multi-billion defense contractor?
i am just sick of all the repub hypocrisy.

  43. EWard

    May 30th, 2010

According to Einstein’s logic, Jindal and LA can suffer. If and when the oil gets in the Gulf currents and circles the Florida Keys it will be moving up the East Coast and into the European waters. What about the damage to the coastline once the hurricane season begins?

BP is responsible for stopping the leak, but it is the government that has to mitigate the environmental nightmare. According to Healy’s logic, Sestak will thumb his nose at this disaster and vote lock step with Obama to continue the damage to our environment.

Healy is a thug like the other Obama hoods such as SEIU, Acorn, Organizing for America, etc. Did the government value your opinion during the stimulus and HC debates? Of course not! Vote for Toomey and kick the Dems out.

  44. bill healy

    May 30th, 2010

I have no idea of what Joe Sestak will or will not vote for.
It’s a little late for republicans to all of a sudden be concerned about the enviornment isn’t it? Isn’t one of the planks of the republican party to do away with govt. regulation? One can only imagine the screaming hysterics of teabagger republican’s if the Obama admin were to push bp out of the way
“That Socialist,Communist,Fascist,Obama, who wasn’t even born in America is taking over the oil industry now.”
Republicans will cry and moan that Obama’s running up the deficit if we try and mitigate the oil company created disaster, better to fine BP a Billion a day till they are bankrupt, but we know the repubs have their back, so that’s not likely. Yeah if you haven’t had enough of Republican created disaster’s like the oil leak in the gulf or Toomey’s banking disaster vote for repubs. As for me I’ve had it with their mindless pandering to the million and billionaires of America at the expense of the rest of us.

  45. EWard

    May 30th, 2010

    Earth to Healy

Sestak, the Dems, and Obama are in charge now. The nation doesn’t expect the Prez or Congress to sit on the sidelines and talk about Republican regulation while the environment is destroyed.

According to your birdbrain logic, Sestak and Obama don’t have to do anything just whine about the Republicans. Go back to your pod!

If you have no idea how Sestak will vote then why are you on this blog?

  46. bill healy

    May 30th, 2010

So who’s sitting on the sidelines? A little consistancy by the GOP would go a long way, first you don’t want Obama saving the economy and would rather have seen the auto companies go bankrupt and drag the econ a little deeper into the ditch the GOP put us into, then the GOP complains he hasn’t taken over an oil company that has caused a huge enviornmental disaster make up your minds either you want Obama to save the nation from the many GOP created disasters or you don’t.
How long after we spend Trillions to clean up BP’S mess and make the teabaggers on the gulf coast whole again will it take for the GOP to start complaining about the deficit again.
Tell me about how fiscally conservative repubs are again, but don’t leave out the parts where they have created 90% of the National Debt.
Your whole party is based on nonsense that any 3 year old could see through. Lower Taxes means the government will collect more tax money? ROFLMAO do republican really believe that? Allow business to regulate themselves, we can trust bankers and oil company execs to not take unsafe chances.lol.
