Poll: Onorato still leads, with Wagner and Williams moving up
Just days before the Democratic primary for governor, Dan Onorato remains the clear front-runner in the four-way primary. But Anthony Williams and Jack Wagner have made up enough ground that the race is not yet out of reach, according to a new poll.
The Rasmussen survey released Monday showed Onorato garnering 34 percent of likely voters, about where he has been over the last week. Williams and Wagner both had their best showings of any public polls at 17 percent apiece, while Joe Hoeffel brought up the rear with 9 percent, 23 percent said they were either undecided or wanted some other candidate.
It seems increasingly evident that, at this point, any of Onorato’s rivals need a true game-changer between now and next Tuesday’s primary. Williams continues to cash big checks from school-choice advocates and can stay on the airwaves, but Wagner has yet to demonstrate that he’ll have the money to move much higher in the polls that he has.
The poll also makes clear that Onorato and Williams are the only two candidates with significant name recognition thanks to more than a month of statewide advertising. Just 21 percent of likely primary voters don’t know enough about Onorato to form an opinion, and only 24 percent don’t know enough about Williams. But Onorato has higher favorability ratings, according to the poll.
The survey of 408 likely voters, conducted May 6, had a margin of error of 5 percent.

Dan the Tax Man already spent six million dollars. He could not close the deal. Williams has spent 3 million dollars. Wagner has spent a few thousand so far. I guess Jack is right. He can do more with less.

Dan is a corporate tool. I’m pulling for Joe but Wagner is honest and on the side of the people not the corporatists. I’m troubled that Williams sold out to the hedge funds.

Jack may not have a ton of money but people know him and that costs alot of money if voters dont know you. He has always carried mercer county and the north west part of the state and will be behind him on tuesday and will back him up in the fall. Jack Wagner is the best chace we have to keep the governorship in Pennsylvania. Also he has alot of republican support in the northwest.

If Onorato spent six million and could not put away his opponents, our prosecutor is going to feast on his carcass this Fall – of course, that presumes he wins. He had the largest tax increase in county history and that will resonate with voters of the GOP and independent persuasion cme November. He is Ed Spendell’s third term and no one wants that.

But there’s Joe Hoeffel. He could stage a comeback. Everyone knows the voters want a true progressive, right?

I agree with you. Onorato can not and will not win the general. Warner or Williams have a much better chance. Onorato has many great commercials nut the truth is that he destroyed PGH.with taxes galore. There is even a tax on drinks so no wonder he was able to raise so much money !
My heart is with Hoeffel but I really don’t know what I will go next Tuesday at the polls. As a committee person I know that I will do whatever stops Onnorato dead in his tracks as the guy can;t beat Corbett in the fall. Isn’t the name of the game to win in the fall?
What to do, I don’t know but Oronato is in the wrong party and must be stopped.

Why aren’t you putting anything up about Scott Conklin? He received the two biggest endorsements.
