No independent run for Stensland
The newswoman won’t be running for Congress.
Former Fox29 anchor Dawn Stensland has apparently opted against a much-considered campaign in the 7th Congressional District. After her name was floated for months and the possibility of a Republican run turned to an independent bid, Stensland is taking a pass for now.
Stensland’s husband, former CBS3 anchor Larry Mendte, disclosed his wife’s decision in a Philadelphia magazine blog post this week. He said Stensland had been putting together a campaign team, along with volunteers to gather the large number of signatures needed to get on the ballot as an independent. But Mendte’s new job in New York and the demands of parenthood, he wrote, made it impossible at this point.
“Dawn Stensland Mendte is the perfect candidate in 2010,” Mendte wrote. “That is why it is a shame she is not running. … Dawn would have won. Of that, we are confident. … I know Dawn still believes in public service and wants to get involved in the local schools and community, wherever we end up. She wants to fight for a wonderful quality of life for our family and for our new neighbors. And who knows, maybe one day, Dawn will be a member of Congress.”

“Dawn Stensland Mendte is the perfect candidate in 2010,”
Come on, now, that is the most disingenuous statement I have heard in a long time. I know it was her husband that uttered those words, but it’s an absolute fallacy to even think for one minute that this woman would be a “perfect” political candidate. Come on know, Larry, we all are not THAT dumb as those that would watch local TV news programming on her former station. Give us SOME credit for having intelligence. Enough of these teleprompter readers thinking they can be political candidates.

Like, uh, the President BB?
I guess you can lump me in with the ‘dumb’ folk watching FOX 29 (if you actually watched, you’d know they are nothing like the National network…unfortunately) both while Dawn was there and currently.

Come on, Ed, I am going to give you some credit here and say you’re smarter than that example, but go ahead and call yourself “dumb” if you want to, that’s your prerogative. However, trying to compare the POTUS with a has-been TV news reader is one heck of a stretch, and well, you said it, simply “dumb” to me. I am a digital media consultant and former on-air broadcaster, so even though I will not waste my time by watching TV news whether it be FOX 29, any other local U.S. TV newscast, or any of the national programs, I am well aware professionally, and with friends working at each locale, personally, that FOX in Philadelphia and Fox News channel are totally different products. Both awful and insulting to one’s intelligence, but different programming nonetheless. More power to you if you enjoy watching, that’s what makes the world go round.

I’m sorry- why is Dawn Stensland newsworthy? Does someone at pa2010.com work for her or something?

[...] Meehan got some good news at the end of the week, as conservative former TV anchor Dawn Stensland ultimately decided against an Independent bid for Congress. There remains one teabagger-affiliated Independent in the field [...]

Dawn exudes two key-characteristics that emerge during even the most casual conversation.
She has a strong knowledge-base, from which she can casually/appropriately draw support for a discussion-point.
She has a striking-presence, which could yield adherents who might otherwise feel disenfranchised.
Both were undoubtedly nurtured via media-experience, but note the ascendency of Diane Allen in NJ (from KYW to the State Senate) for a reasonable model.
What could reasonably occur is akin to what Sarah Palin has been doing…increasing public visibility.
What transpires thereafter would then mesh her contribution(s) with a prudent assessment of environmental influences beyond her control.

Dawn couldn’t get the signatures to get on the ballot. Period. If she could have, her run would have doomed Meehan and Lentz would win the seat. She certainly has a reason to want to hurt Meehan. That would have been some payback.

Dr. Sklaroff, I respectively and strongly disagree with your two points concerning the former TV teleprompter reader. I never knew her to have either a strong knowledge-base (sic) or a striking-presence (sic). I also disagree with the comparison to the current NJ legislator and former TV anchor, that is not giving enough credit to the current legislator. As for the comparison to the former governor of Alaska, I do agree, both are entertainers, not politicians, and neither should be covered on this political blog, but instead on an entertainment blog.

Ok Dr. Sklaroff, you really want her, in a bad way, so tell truth to your wife already and get hot with Dawn.
