House colleagues back Conklin for Lt. Gov.
Jonathan Saidel has the vast majority of the party support in the coming primary, but state Representative Scott Conklin (D-Centre) is making a last-minute show of strength in his bid to pull an upset against Saidel.
Conklin recently rolled out endorsements from 17 state representatives, including Thomas Caltagirone, Eugene DePasquale, Bill Kortz and Tim Mahoney.
“I am honored by the number of my colleagues that believe as I do that government needs to be reformed,” Conklin said in a statement.
Saidel was endorsed on a standing voice vote by the Democratic State Committee earlier this year, before Conklin got in the race. He recently began buying TV time, has raised exponentially more money than both Conklin and retired Commonwealth Court Judge Doris Smith-Ribner, and has the backing of seemingly every organized labor group that has endorsed in the race.

17 Reformers Endorse Scott Conklin for Lieutenant Governor!
–Centre County State Representative Scott Conklin’s campaign for Lieutenant Governor received a big boost this week. Conklin was endorsed by 17 State Representatives who believe in his reform message.
conklin10: “I am honored by the number of my colleagues that believe as I do that government needs to be reformed,” Conklin said. “We have worked together, we have put in those 31 reform measures, the no-two a.m. voting and especially the new open records law. They believe like do I do, that we have to stop the old machine politics from coming back and taking over.” (19 seconds)
Conklin believes that a vote for him is a rejection of the strong-armed, pay-for-play, payback system that must not be allowed to continue.
conklin11: “And that’s the reason we are banning together,” Conklin stated. “We are trying to keep the reform message going before it gets squashed out by the old school politicians who want to keep things the way they are.” (10 seconds)
Conklin’s call for a constitutional convention to change our broken system of government was the inspiration for his candidacy. He is encouraging all reform-minded voters to support him on May 18th.

This is so funny. Conklin wants to convince the voters that he is the reform candidate. Yet he gets the old-school W.A.M. kings to endorse him. Like Caltagirone.

Saidel wins this one BIG! And it is my hope that a new state committee team and democratic leadership takes this pompous, narcissistic, vainglorious and egotistical runt Conklin and get him out of the House of Reps. He is worthless! Claiming 17 State Reps out of 104? He is a complete buffoon. He has no idea what reform in government is – give up the 77th Legislative District seat and run for another office – then you can “begin” to understand what reform is…

Thinks it is time to stop the name calling. Flowbee, really, your guy was controller for 16 years and can’t even get the endorsement from the hometown paper. I guess you could not buy them off. The fact of the matter is your guy is corrupt. The Inky knows it. He should do the right thing and step out of this race
