For final push, Pike hits the airwaves (Updated)

Less than two weeks before primary voters go to the polls, Democrat Doug Pike is deploying his considerable campaign war chest to TV.

Pike, the former Inquirer editorial writer who faces Manan Trivedi in the hotly-contest 6th District primary, appears to have first gone on the air over the weekend. Though pa2010.com has not yet seen his first ad, multiple reports were received of it airing on TV. His first ad buy is on both cable and broadcast, and the first ad is about jobs.

Pike holds a huge cash advantage of Trivedi because he put $1 million of his own money into the campaign. Pike has also been undertaking a considerable direct-mail campaign, and Trivedi, despite being backed by a majority of the local party establishment, is unlikely to be able to afford any TV time. It remains to be seen what kind of penetration Pike’s ads can achieve, in an expensive media market where Democratic candidates in statewide primaries are saturating the airwaves.

The two are competing to take on incumbent Republican Jim Gerlach.

Saw Doug Pike’s ad – it seems to take a happy tone, pushing the line, “Pick Pike.” There are several groups of happy smiling people talking around Doug with a voice-over and then I believe two times the group, says, “Pick Pike.” I guess they needed a catchy line.

It does at the end have in Doug’s voice say something about “jobs being the most important thing.” It doesn’t (from what I recall) say anything about an opponent either Trivedi or even, Congressman Gerlach. I can’t even remember if it even says what state or area Pike is from??? It just appeared to be a happy ad working on name recognition.

Pike promised not to make negatives waves about Trivedi, so I don’t think you’ll be seeing anything like that. Sorry Trivedi couldn’t be so kind.

great stuff! I’ve seen his canvassers out and LOTS of Pike signs. Trivedi may have paid off all the committee people, but it seems that most of the average joe and jane voter support Pike.
